Smart inbox problem
« on: March 23, 2013, 04:16:13 am »
Hi,

I'm using pro version, set my smart inbox to 1 day but why it is still showing emails from 2012? This happens only for the emails from my Gmail account folders/ labels other than Gmail 'inbox'.
Any ideas how this smart inbox works?
Thanks.

@dans,

The smart inbox also considers when a message was received by the app.

This is intentional, so that if the app is unable to check mail for a while (let's say you travel some place without Internet access) -- and mail checking resumes later, you'll *probably* want to catch up, and have any missed messages in the smart inbox...

Does this make sense?

Those older messages should disappear from the smart inbox after 1 day (24 hours).

Kostya,

I've not been able to reproduce this again yet, but there was a time not so long ago where my Smart Inbox was all but empty but as I read older emails I would find they would somehow get flagged as new and turn up (read) in the Smart Inbox until the 24 hour window had passed.

I'll see if I can reproduce this again with some logging turned on.

Thanks Kostya. That makes sense now.
I can see now  that the old messages were gone from smart inbox, that's good.  But now I can see the same old messages are still in the specific email account folder. How do I set the time so they will disappear from the account folder as well after pass the time window?

Hi,

Each folder keeps 25 most recent messages up to date (that's the default setting, can be changed under each account's Options and Folders, this is called "Messages per page").

Also, each folder keeps 250 most recent messages on the device, for the faster "scroll down to see more" thing.

In other words, you can think of the app app as your "window" that shows recent messages on the mail server. Normal. Working as expected.
