No notifications since migration to a new phone
« on: June 08, 2024, 10:28:02 pm »
I have been using AquaMail for several use without a problem.

I recently replaced my phone to a Samsung Galaxy S23+, installed the latest version of AM on it.
I saved my AM settings on the old phone, and imported them to the new phone once I installed AM on it. Everything seems to work as before - emails are received at regular interval to all my account, but I receive no notifications whatsoever any more, and I cannot find how to set them up correctly...

The problems I have noticed:
- The counters of the numbers of unread messages I have in each account in the account list screen (marked in blue) don't show any more.
- I do not receive any notifications when emails arrive - no sound, vibration, or a badge with a counter on the AM icon on my screen.

Any idea how to resolve this before I throw in the towel?

Hello j_cocker,

Let's start by disabling the "Only when there are changes" option. Also, unmark/mark "Enable notifications" option.

Try the following as well.

1 - Please check app settings -> Mail, receiving.
Some phones (my Huawei Honor) may "remove" the app from "Doze Mode exception" after a few days.
If the app needs to be excluded again, there will be a green panel /prompt on that screen. In addition, "scheduled mail checks" should be enabled.

2 - There are phone manufacturers that pre-install their own "battery optimizer" on their devices. Some examples: Xiaomi, Huawei, ASUS. Perhaps your phone has one of those "battery optimizers" built in too, and if it does (best check with the manufacturer's support), please white-list the app there too.

3 - Swiping the app away from "recents" ("running") apps can, on some phones, also prevent scheduled mail checks.

4 - Your phone's "background data" should be enabled (if not, the app won't be able to access the network, which it needs to check mail).

5 - A "third party" battery optimizer app such as Clean Master also can prevent Aqua Mail from checking mail (making it impossible for the app to work in the background).

Hello j_cocker,

Done both.  No change...

Just checked - AM is NOT in the Battery Optimization list...

Background data is enabled. No 3rd party battery optimizers installed/running.

The phone/app checks for new emails, even when the app is in the background. Only problem is that it doesn't show when new ones arrive/have arrived.  I know that it does because when I click on the account (I have 4 of them), and then on the Inbox label, there are new/unread emails there. It is just that the app does not show the unread counter against each account, does not show any notifications - wither vibrate, makes a sound, and indicates them on the notificzation bar at the top of the screen.
