How to save mails e.g.in pdf format?
« on: March 04, 2013, 09:34:09 pm »
Scenario:
Want to save single mails out of the mail app.
Can't find an opportunity to save a message outside aquamail. Can't find if/where to export single messages into pdf format.

Are these two functionalities anywhere?

There is no message export, pdf or otherwise...

There is a way to "Share" and "Copy" message text, if you need to save some important bits somewhere, that's available in the menu when viewing a message.

Being able to drag emails to a local folder would be a nice feature.

Agree.  Still posed that into the section "feature request" in this forum.

I am also interested in an export or a print function (pdf) heavily because I need some mails saved outside the app in folders. Please design such an function! Today I have to check the mails twice: at first - mobile, secondly - at home for saving important mails on a HD.

Well all the pdf converter i know on Android are working online, uploading the file to a server, converting them and download them after the conversion is finished online.
So seams not to be an easy task to do so. The only quick possibility i see is to save the email and then use one of the above mentioned pfd converter.

Gettin´more and more annoyed of missing opportunity for export messages to e.g. pdf format.

An increasing amount of stuff like receipts, cancellation confirmations and whatever is just received as an email.
The mentioned "Share & Copy" does not work properly on that and just copying text is also not sufficient.

Therewith I can´t store this kind of important documents outside of aqua mail properly, which is not satisfying at all.

Please, consider to add a feature for mail export, seriously.

Sorry, I don't see this happening, at least at this point.

I find it curious that unlike PC environment there are few or possibly no apps that can be used as a 'printer' and create PDFs. If this were not so that would have been my suggestion. Is this an adobe licence thing, or android?
Plenty that turn web pages, scans, or entered text to PDF.
Android is a really funny planet.

Comparing mobile devices to desktop PCs that have had decades of evolution, both in hardware and software is somewhat strange, no matter what Android marketing types want you to believe.

Do you remember what PC apps were like when a "powerful desktop computer" had in the neighborhood of 64 megabytes of RAM? That's how much each Android app gets.

Oh, I do indeed.
My first desktop PC has about 1 Meg of ram, of which only about three quarters could be used., and it had a gargantuan hard disk, with an unbelievable 107 Meg.
My feeling is that in the Android world, 'the market' in the true capitalist sense is deciding where apps get created and where not, and with so many android things being phones, little demand yet for printing or PDF output. The market can do very well without catering at all for a minority.
As tablets grow in use, and people start to need printouts of boarding cards, proofs of purchase, etc, the demand will come, and it will be worthwhile someone meeting that demand. However, the way the market works will mean that PDF output, if it comes, will be by a printing app, not built in as part of every app that needs PDF output.
Just my opinion.

For PDF, I tried to use Cloud Print by Paolo Fernandes, choosing "Upload to Google Drive" as "the printer".

It worked fairly well, preserving most formatting and even embedded images.

That's a pretty good solution, as far as I'm concerned, and it works now.
