Migrating data and pro license from old version
« on: February 26, 2021, 06:10:26 am »
I'm using a very old version of Aquamail (1.6.2.9), from before the Mobisystems acquisition. At the time I really liked the independent license system, since many of the devices I use do not have Gapps on them.

Unfortunately, one of my email providers is now refusing to allow it to connect. (Could be the TLS cipher, could be expecting OAuth or something, still waiting to hear from them on that)

So it looks like I'll be forced to upgrade it on a device which has no Gapps on it. There is an "AquaMail Pro Unlocker" on my Gplay account, but that cannot be installed on my Gapps-free device. Not sure how I would license it for that device.

Secondly, I have a lot of accumulated data on that instance of Aquamail, eg from POP accounts, which doesn't get re-synced on a new install. There is an export/import function, but do the modern versions accurately import such backups from v1.6.2.9? I have a number of accounts and aliases configured, I'd hate to start from scratch if possible.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Please install the Unlocker for PayPro 1.0.18 from here:

http://www.aqua-mail.com/?page_id=217

Or use this direct link:

https://www.aqua-mail.com/download/AquaMailUnlockerPayPro-1.0.18.apk

You can then get the latest app apk from under the development builds section of the forum. To unlock it the email address used for when you purchased it has to be one of the email addresses inside of aquamail (is my understanding).

I believe the older backup will work on the newer versions of Aquamail. I've never had issues restoring from an older backup but I usually don't restore from that far back but in theory it should still work. Yes, it will restore your accounts and all the settings.

Here is actually a newer unlocker that MobiSystems emailed me in February of last year. When I made the same request but I made it by email (to allow me to run it on my fire tablet).

Install the Unlocker for PayPro Global version 1.0.30-893 from here:

http://www.aqua-mail.com/?page_id=217

Or use this direct link:

https://www.aqua-mail.com/download/AquaMailUnlockerPayPro-1.0.30-893-stable-666a044f1d31.apk

(Android may prompt you to allow app installs from "external sources", i.e. not Google Play)

Thanks for the info on the unlocker, but I think I'll use the link the staff member posted, just to make sure I have the right version.

Another thing I'd love to be able to do is run the new version side-by-side with the old version until I'm confident the settings and data will transfer. That could be a challenge.  ;D

I'd assume most of the UI settings will not transfer though, since the UI is so different.

Thanks for this.

Do you have any idea if I can get away with temporarily running the old and new versions on the same device until I determine that the license and data will transfer?

Also - any thoughts on the viability of importing the backed-up app data into the current version? Is that likely to work?

Thanks much.

Hi,

I think that would be impossible. But I can't really get what you'd like to do here :)

Android would see them as the same application. Therefore, when you install the newer version it would override the old version. I believe there are ways to do this but it involves tweaking the naming of the app not the file name. There are guides on the Internet or YouTube for helping do this but this is not a supported feature by most developers.
