Exchange Account - syncs once then never again

Love the interface and functionality of AquaMail.  But, my new work uses Outlook, and I need to sync to my phone.  When I "Add account" for this service, everything works great.  I don't need to do any manual setting (just select Exchange and enter log-in info), and a first sync quickly runs.  I get my inbox, my drafts, and my sents, just as I want them.

But, then when I try to sync/refresh to get new messages, the app trys and trys but then poops out without downloading any recently arrived mail (although there definitely is some).
-Tried many times
-Tried on LTE and on wifit
-Turned off contact sync and calendar sync, since I don't care about those
But, nothing fixed it.

However, I can delete the count and repeat the set-up and--once again--everything works great. And, of course newer messages are synced.  Not the way I want to use the product though ;-p

Any ideas on a setting or two I might try playing with?  Anything in manual set-up that might make a difference?
