new mail banner notification gone?

This could be an Android issue. On my s6 with Lollipop when. I receive emails a nice banner pops up where I can delete the email or click on the banner and it takes me to aquamail app.

This new S10+ and OS I don't get that banner notification at all. There is a badge on the status bar. If I pull down the menu from the top I can see it there but it is completely inefficient this way.

Is there a way to get that notification pop up to come back or is it gone thanks to Google?

figured it out for anyone making the jump. Google API moved the notification control at the OS level. There is an option for sound +pop up you want to enable this option.
