Account Check Error on Exchange server
« on: January 11, 2019, 12:16:57 am »
I have AqualMail 1.18.1-1405 and AquaMail Pro Unlocker installed on my Pixel 2XL.

I had Aquamail set up and had to reset the phone.  I can't get it setup again after reinstalling.  That in itself is annoying that AquaMail doesn't backup settings or if it does, it does not restore on re-install.

I can get the connection working on both the Outlook client as well as Gmail.  But both of them have a little different settings options

On both, I have
Domain\Username: us-<companyname>\<name>
Password:***
Server: webmail.<company>.com
Port: 443
SSL/TLS

On AquaMail, I have
Server name: webmail.<company>.com
Security Type: SSL (strict check)
Server Port: 443
Login: I tried both <name>@<company>.com and us-<companyname>\<name>
Password: ***

If I then click on Next, I get the Account check error

Exchange mail server (EWS): Login error HTTP/1.1 401 Unauthorized

Please make sure your settings are correct

Any idea what I can do to fix this?

There is a "Backup and restore" feature in AquaMail for this case.

You can find it in the Settings > Data storage > 'Backup & restore'

Yeah. I saw that now. But that doesn't help me now since I don't have the backup. I really don't understand why apps don't use Android's native auto backup of settings data without user intervention. Nova Launcher and Tasker and now Aqua Mail apparently are delinquent in this.

And the reason why Aqua Mail can't connect while Outlook and Gmail has no problems is still baffling. Haven't really got anything out of the logs.

Hi,

There are different ways to connect to Exchange - most but not all apps (including Gmail app and stock Email app) use something called ActiveSync.

Aqua (and other apps, for Android and Windows even) - use something called EWS (Exchange Web Services).

EWS is official, supported by Microsoft since 2007 - but may have been turned off on your server by your server admins, or may require different server settings.

So, please ask your company's "computer people" about EWS (Exchange Web Services) specifically.
- Is this enabled on the server, or restricted somehow?

- If enabled, what are the settings (server name, login)?

- And then you can use the Manual button (after entering your email and password) in Aqua Mail and make sure you're using those settings.

Have you tried entering the Exchange server settings manually form the option Internet Mail.
