Aqua Mail support of microSD cards in Chrome OS
« on: August 25, 2018, 01:38:05 am »
Is there going to be any support of microSD cards in Chrome OS?  When is this projected to occur?

As far as I know there is currently no AM version for Chrome. It appears that in 2016 version 1.6.x was on Chrome, but whether that was an official release by Kostya or a hack, I don't know.

Take a look at this: https://www.aqua-mail.com/forum/index.php?topic=6433.msg38858#msg38858

Thank you for your answer.

I already had assumed that there is no current version for Chrome OS.  Considering that Google has made it possible to install Android apps in Chromebooks, it would have been silly to support a separate version for Chrome OS.  However, Google has made it possible for Android app developers to support their apps in Chromebooks better, including providing access to the add-on storage such as micro-SD cards.  The Chrome-OS does not extend this capability universally to all Android apps, its app much make a few changes to provide this updated support.

Considering that many of us receive a good number of attachments, I think that it would be a stellar idea for Aqua Mail to support microSD cards and other extended storage options such as SSDs.  Minor changes need to made to the app to provide this support in Chrome.

Yes correct we've not been updating the "ARC Runtime" version of Aqua Mail in Google Chrome *WEB* apps store. ARC was experimental.

Right now the official way to run Android apps on Chrome OS - is by installing Android apps directly from Google Play.

Second, "save to microSD" isn't supported, be it real Android or Chrome OS, sorry.

Third, in terms of "disk" space usage - the app is able to *cache* (just not *save*) attachments on the microSD. Please see the FAQ if you need details, although that's set up by default:

Finally, the next version (1.17) has a few Chrome OS specific enhancements - 1) window resizing 2) a bug fix in "save and open" of attachments. You can get a preview .apk here on the forum in the "development builds" section.

Thanks for the straight -forward answer.  I would certainly wait for your update.  On the other hand, it would always be useful to think of supporting a key feature such of saving attachments automatically, if not to the microSD card, to cloud storage

Re: to cloud storage

You can do this by tapping the "three dots" icon next to attachment - and choosing "share" and then whatever cloud storage app you use.

( this is not automatic however, but all your attachments *are* in "cloud storage" already, that is, your email provider, no? )
