Android 8 / Oreo: new icon is ugly

Hello,

after updating to Android 8 / Oreo the new AquaMail Icon looks very ugly i think.
It is now round and you can not even see that this wants to be an envelope.
Is there any chance to change the icon back to the old one?

Screenshot is from a Honor 8 with Oreo (EMUI .
Changing the launcher app does not help, still the ugly round icon (second picture).

Or is there a way to change the symbol to the old one?

It's supposed to look like the picture on the left. And it does on every Android 7+ phone that I've got (Samsung, Xiaomi, Nexus).

If it doesn't look like the picture on the left - this is probably be a device specific issue, Huawei must be trying to "make it look better".

We cannot change the icon dynamically based on the phone's manufacturer. Maybe Huawei has a setting to turn this "enhancement" off, or maybe it's just a bug?

So it is not possible to change the icon to the "not round" one like in your avatar?
I think the round one looks not really good because it shows only a part of the envelope picture.

The icon is "baked" into the app - and Android reads it automatically. Cannot be changed "on the fly".

I believe there are launchers that let you choose the "shape" of those "new" 8.0 icons - square / round / rounded square etc.

Nova Launcher's "Look & Feel" config options can do this.

I think now this is an Honor/Huawei problem.

When i use an launcher like Nova-Launcher and set the icons to "square" i get the icons like the pictures in the first post (Icon still ugly round and just an square frame around it. So my next phone will not be an Honor/Huawei...
