Looks really really good!

Thank you so much.

Just a few days ago I was thinking that this screen needs some improvement and voila, there it is!

Very happy!

As this is interface related, I have small feature request. Look and feel have option "back" to close message list. When this is not selected, then from the message list "back" button does not close the app, but moves to the account list.

Can You add similar option for expanded account view, so that if (any) account is expanded (arrow down, account folder list is visible), then "back" button does not close the app, but only closes accounts expanded view?

The reason : when there are many accounts, it's not easy to distinguish accounts/folder all displayed with white background - despite the colored band at the left.
+1

That was the first thing that caught my eye.

However, I did not comment immediately because I hope that the current status is just another development step and Kostya will make the background color available again.

Yes that's what I wanted -- if user assigns a color, he/she wants to see THAT COLOR CLEARLY - but our designer disagreed.

I'll pass along what you guys (Paris Geek and mikeone) wrote and hopefully it might help him see things differently.

Thanks to @Paris Geek for his screenshot.

As you can see, in the current version (pure white background for the accounts) the visual distinction between accounts and folders is far too weak.

I really appreciate an option like "Use the assigned color for the account's background". This option could be disabled by default (if the designer is a fan of a clean, colorless white UI. It seems to be nice and "modern", but it is actually impractical for the user  8) ).

I think maybe changing the account name letters instead of the background to color would look nicer and get enough attention while not destroying the new design.

I just posted a new build above, # 1129.

No changes to account colors yet - I've told our Project Manager, she's thinking about it.

+1 to what Paris Geek and mikeone are requesting.

Does your designer actually use AM on a day-to-day basis? If not, perhaps he/she should and they'll see that what's being requested would be quite helpful because as it stands now, it's hard to work with. Same for your Project Manager who "is thinking about it."

Hi everybody, thanks for your thoughts (and mockups!) on the colored accounts UI!
We're currently experimenting with a couple of options, trying to make the accounts screen look better (without any usability sacrifices, obviously).
We'd like to gather some more feedback from a larger sample of users, so we may post a beta version with the 'colored bars' and see if there are people who like this or more people who dislike it, etc.

Obviously, we're not married to any of the changes we make in terms of design, we're just experimenting and trying to improve things before the official release.

Thanks a lot!

Please Kostya, could you add an option, in account list settings, to "use account color for account name background" (ie when the user assigns a color to an account, the account name band is displayed with that color as a background - like before).

Ideally, we'd like to avoid adding a new setting where we can. The more settings we have, the more complexity we introduce into the codebase; more complexity == more difficult to maintain and test, etc.

The current way of displaying looks very classy but has been criticized for lack of immediate visible distinction.

This is probably true for people who have many accounts (me included).

Nevertheless I am really appalled when an app starts looking so blatantly colorized that function rules over design.

Then you get a very unsophisticated "bubble gum" kind of look which I don't enjoy at all and which really doesn't fit into today's direction of making android apps look more and more esthetically pleasing.

I think maybe changing the account name letters instead of the background to color would be a good compromise and aid in visibility of the account.

A valid objection was made, that this would be a problem with lighter colors.

So maybe one could help that situation by using font shadows or font frames, and/or by subtly changing the background so that light and dark colors as well show up nicely.

Simultaneously I think this opportunity should be used to revamp the thread view in inbox etc. when you open a mail and the answers to it in a similar way.

There I also have difficulty orienting myself easily where the thread begins or ends. The traditional tool to make this more obvious would be indentation, but that costs too much screen estate on small phone screen, therefore I think to harmonize this view with the way the account screen would be changed, could be a good idea.

Thank you for listening to your users and for making such a great app.

I know it is not always easy to find the right compromise between a very small percentage of heavy and very vocal users and the vast majority of users and between making an app look truly beautiful.

But I think you have the right mix of resources and (graphical) talent in your team to find a good solution.

This is the great advantage of working with a large app developer that one has these resources available and can make an app look really beautiful.
