"Messages to sync" "messages to cache" settings
« on: February 01, 2018, 01:32:43 pm »
hello,

after facing the famous "mobile radio active" bug in lollipop 5.1
(https://www.aqua-mail.com/forum/index.php?topic=5130.msg30116#msg30116)
and seeing there's (still) no solution for it,

I though I should limit aquamail's network usage,
so after having set "Messages to sync" "messages to cache" at 100/500 respectively,
I reset it at their minimum values (15 and 50 messages)
(I've read http://www.aqua-mail.com/?page_id=227 of course)

I should be getting "less mobile radio active" now I guess,
my question is what happens with non-synced items/folders etc?

Some days ago I figured out that I couldn't download/view emails from a non-syncing folder,
can't I read emails that aren't synced or emails in folders that aren't synced?

edit:
why can't I remove syncing in exchange accounts for all folders except inbox?

edit2:
aquamail is the top drainer in my battery usage with already 1+ hour of mobile radio active (out of almost 5 of using mobile data and with push mail turned off! there's got to be a solution/workaround!)

Re: I should be getting "less mobile radio active" now I guess,

Maybe. Maybe not.

I'm not sure there is a direct connection.

Re: my question is what happens with non-synced items/folders etc?

The app trims its on-device storage over time, automatically.

Re: Some days ago I figured out that I couldn't download/view emails from a non-syncing folder,

These folders get trimmed over time. You can always refresh them yourself after opening.

Re: why can't I remove syncing in exchange accounts for all folders except inbox?

Exchange has "server defined" Sent / Deleted / Drafts they're always there in any Exchange accounts, so we just find those and set them "to sync".

Re: aquamail is the top drainer in my battery usage with already 1+ hour of mobile radio active

1 hour mobile radio - and "keep awake"? much smaller?

The "keep awake" is how long the app actually worked (total), including using the mobile radio.

The "mobile radio" is how long Android decided to keep the radio in a high power state, "giving credit" to Aqua Mail for it.

For others the "offending app" may be something else - Chrome, Facebook, Whatsapp, Play Services, etc.

yes. "keep awake" is much lower, 2-3 minutes!!  :o

anyway, I've set the check to the exchange account at 1hr (from one quarter of the hour set before) and
I think it got a bit lower today,
yesterday mobile radio was 2hr, today I didn't reach 3 hours in total

Re: yes. "keep awake" is much lower, 2-3 minutes!!  :o

That's the time Aqua Mail actually spent working - and using the network connection. Minutes, not hours.

well, after changing to 1hour check (I don't use that phone on the weekends),
I noticed there was a 4-5 minute of mobile data active each time,
aquamail was the last app (from the first it was before) and
even disappeared from the battery stats after a reboot!!

I'm using xposed mobile radio active fix too (since friday),
I don't know if that has to do with it

Re: I'm using xposed mobile radio active fix too (since friday),

When this came out, there was a discussion on Reddit on whether the high "mobile radio" is actually a real battery drain, or just an indication issue - and therefore, which is it that this xposed module really fixes.

If my memory serves, that discussion didn't arrive at anything definite.
