Server OWA
« on: May 02, 2016, 09:29:37 am »
Hello,

I use daily aquamail for my various email addresses, with satisfaction. Except for one, an address server running Exchange (Outlook Web App).

I read on the forum that exchange happened in EWS since 2007, but unfortunately for me, and I suppose other people, the server is still working with OWA. Would it not be to put in place the management of the protocol as other android email applications allow the order to use aquamail for all my addresses?

Thank You

The only mail app I know of which still supports OWA is K9 Mail.

It can't connect to Exchange 2007 or newer, though, at all.

OWA is officially "deprecated" (obsoleted) by EWS, since 2007.

The version which AquaMail needs (2007 SP1) was released in November 2007, which was eight and a half years ago.

I don't think it's unreasonable of me to expect this version or newer.

If your company's Exchange is still 2003 (or earlier) -- sorry!

Hi ,
I am using Aquamail-Pro since a long time on various smartphones, and was always happy.
Now I changed my job, and the only chance to come to company emails is EWS/OWA. I do not know the details, but I guess it is a relatively new Exchange server implemented.

I can access from browsers or MobiMail, just using an https-URL and my user and password.
I tried the same in Aquamail, but this did not work in the beginning. Now it is connected via EWS, but:

Sending from Aquamail using the EWS-Company account, even with html-text works now, but the sendet mail is only stored locally on smartphone, not on the exchange server.
Also, no mails are shown in the inbox from Aquamail.

What is wrong here? Any idea or hints?

Thanks a lot for your support

No I really can't know what's wrong "like this".

By the way, OWA and EWS are two completely different things. And EWS has nothing to do with "access from browsers".

Have you tried talking to your company's "computer people" about this?

We're not the only app that uses EWS.

All else failing - you could make a debug log (please see below) and in that log, you could capture 1) sending a message 2) refreshing the account.

But - although this could be a bug in Aqua.... there are many (other) users who use it with Exchange and not having any trouble, so this also could be "something wrong" with your corporate server, most likely with EWS specifically.

Dear Kostya,
thanks for your fast reply, and also the explanation regarding EWS and OWA. Thought that almost same.

Talking to the IT guys is not possible, they told me there is no access from outside possible except with the companies phones with special apps running in a kind of sandbox.
But I found an URL in PC`s  Outlook for access from a browser, and I tried this with several apps and methods.

Finally I brought it to run today, with another app, BL**. Obviously it is using Exchange Web Active Sync interface. It works perfect for me, even calendars are synced like hell.
But I prefer the Aquamail interfaces and functionality, and next week I will check how to bring it to run...

But first of all, thanks again for your support, and I wish you some relaxing days (if in your region the time between Christmas and New Year is also a bit more quiet...).

Best Regards
Ohm

P.S. I also would do a log, but do not know how to, you said "see below", but cannot find anything below...

Re: they told me there is no access from outside possible except with the companies phones with special apps running in a kind of sandbox

Oh, really?

If the IT department wants to block something - they can --

-- and it's not reasonable to expect that Aqua would be able to work around any such *deliberate limitations*.

Re: Finally I brought it to run today, with another app, BL**. Obviously it is using Exchange Web Active Sync interface.

Sure, maybe your IT allows Active Sync from any device / network. We do not use Active Sync and don't have any plans to do so.

But - let's say tomorrow your IT dept decides to only allow Outlook and Gmail apps, and/or decides to block Blue Mail or My Mail. Then those apps will stop working too, *as intended* (by your IT department).

Re:  I found an URL in PC`s  Outlook for access from a browser, and I tried this with several apps and methods.

EWS operates on URLs that look like this:

https://server/EWS/Exchange.asmx

( in Aqua Mail settings you can just enter "server" part )

Please note that if you try to open the above URL in a web browser - you *will not* get human-readable content.
