Problems setting up/connecting
« on: December 16, 2017, 12:33:00 am »
It seems like Aqua Mail is the mobile client I want to use, but I'm having problems connecting it to an account, any account.

I have e-mail with Hotmail, Mail.com, and Zoho, and select the Internet mail option, but "cannot connect to servers" or more often, lately, "unfortunately, Aqua Mail has stopped." Providers' servers are up via desktop and mobile browsers, the settings entered are automatic or entered accurately from sources online, including their websites.

I've tried a few versions of AM; currently I have 1.5.9.11 installed (with permissions removed for Read Calendar, Add/Modify Calendar, Read Owner Contact Card, and Run at Start-up).

I'm running Kit-Kat 4.4.2 on an LG Optimus Exceed 2; the "carrier" is Verizon, but I don't use them -- it's more a tiny tablet, using wi-fi only.

Thanks.

You might want to try updating AM to the latest version - either stable release 1.12.0.657 or development 1.13.0.714.
Google Play for the stable or the first forum topic for development.

I'd also suggest searching the forum for 'hotmail' which brings up a lot of hits, one of which may have the answer you're looking for.

Re:  1.5.9.11

This is over 2 years old (from August 2015).

Even if there are any "our" bugs there that you're running into - we won't be able to provide you with any fixes.

Re: with permissions removed for

Android 4.4 doesn't have a mechanism for the user to grant / revoke permissions. And so on this version the app just assumes that the permissions it needs are there.

That could be the reason for the crashes (the "has stopped" message).

Could also be causing connectivity issues, I don't think it would be a direct cause / effect here, but if you're messing with low-level things like that...

The only app setting I can think of to check is - app settings -> network -> "use dns lookup" (second from the top). Should be enabled. It is by default, but perhaps worth checking.
