Quest: Suppoer for Androids 7 in build printing plugin
« on: November 01, 2017, 12:36:02 am »
Hi,

I'm using Aqua Mail since quite some time and moved to Android 7 devices now. On these I have the possibility to use Android in build printing plugin to print stuff directly. It's working quite well with office or some other mailing apps I tested but on Aqua Mail the function seems not to be supported. I tried to use Hammermill to print mails together with Aqua Mail but the result was looking horrible. It was like plain text or something like that as I lost the whole formats.

My question would be if there is a plan to include the possibility to use Android in build printing plugin?

Regards

Hi,

Use Menu -> Copy/Send/Share/Print -> Send/Share/Print message text when you have a message open. Then choose your printing app from the app selection window (i.e. where to “send” message text).

A variety of printing apps is supported, but I especially recommend Cloud Print by Paolo Fernandes, which can print formatted messages, including images.

Since version 1.4 AquaMail has support for Google Cloud Print, which is built into Android since version 4.4. The relevant menu item in the same place, under Copy/Send/Share/Print.

Thx for coping the text from FAQ but this was not my question.

I tried to use the described way together with Hammermill App as I described already but the result was not usable. Next to that my printer is not supporting cloud printer.

Re: I tried to use Hammermill to print mails together with Aqua Mail but the result was looking horrible.

And I guess you used the "copy/send/share/print"?

When you do that, Aqua sends the message's *both* plain and HTML text to "the other app" using the standard Android mechanism. Once that's done - the text is sent - the rest is out of our control.

We can't know what this particular app "wants", what quirks it has, so it would be best for *them* to investigate. Then if they recommend any specific changes to what we do, we'll consider them.

Overall, the best way to print is through Google Cloud Print, which Aqua Mail supports but I understand that your printer doesn't...

Yes indeed I used the described way "copy/send/share/print" and selected the printing app afterwards. However within the printing app all formats are lost. Pls don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that this is a problem of Aqua Mail  :) .

I was just checking if you are planning to integrate the build in printing feature   8) . But listening to you words it seems not.

We don't have anything to do at this point -

- Aqua Mail "copy/send/print/share" does work fine, "sharing" message text, including into printing apps (e.g. Cloud Print by Paolo Fernandes is one I've used in the past) but not only.

- It uses a standard Android mechanism, so there *should not* be any compat issues but *there are*, with the app you mentioned.

- I'll repeat: we can't know what goes on *inside the Hammermill app* ...

- ... and this is why I've asked you to contact *their* support because they *actually can* find out exactly what goes wrong in their app's code.

- And if the printing app's people say "oh this is a bug in Aqua Mail it does X where it should be doing Y" - then we'll be happy to consider a fix.

Until then, we don't have anything to go on.

We can only see "our" side of things - the "sending" of a message's text - and can't see what happens in the other app's code.

I guess we still misunderstood each other. I'm not saying that this is a problem of Aqua Mail and I even don't ask to provide a fix.

I was just checking if you are planning to support a different feature or way of working.

Seems so, but I'm not sure what "different feature" you're asking about?

Aqua Mail has supported Google Cloud Print since a long time, that's "the other" way to print (to the best of my knowledge).

You'll find it in same Menu -> Copy/Send/Share/Print -> Google Cloud Print.

Now you mention "printing plugins" - those are part of "Google Cloud Print", the "other side".

Apps including Aqua Mail -> talk to Google Cloud Print -> talks to actual printers using "plugins".

Have you tried that?
