Connection error on wifi only
« on: February 20, 2015, 02:13:22 am »
For some reason my Hotmail and Yahoo emails are not synching due to a "connection error".  This only occurs when on wifi.  Once I switch to LTE everything works fine.   Does anyone know the possible cause?  Never had an issue before.  I restarted the phone twice (Samsung Galaxy SII LTE) and the emails still won't come through when on wifi.

When Aqua reports connection errors, they are genuine, they really happened when the app was trying to connect to a mail server and was unable to.

"Never had the issue before" -- with AquaMail, I presume?

So could have possibly changed since then? Maybe your connectivity via the home ISP (WiFi)?

Oh, and also if the WiFi in question is something at a hotel, McD, etc. -- public WiFi access points are often limited to web browsing traffic and block everything else. Same goes for office WiFi (corporate IT policies you know).

Having exact same issue, connects just fine on mobile data, but not on wifi right now. Downloaded gmail app to phone and that works just fine. Seems to me might point to something that's changed in Aquamail in recent times ?

Let's not speculate too much. I have more than a few phones here, connected to WiFi, and it's just fine.

The native Gmail app uses entirely different way to "talk" to its (Gmail) mail server.

A more meaningful comparison would be to K9 Mail (and not Cloud Magic, My Mail, Type Mail either).

What is your WiFi, exactly? Home? Hotel, airport, are you travelling? Many "public" WiFi access points have very limited (intentionally) capabilities.

In Aqua, it should be enough to turn on settings -> network -> "Use DNS", but that's enabled by default (worth checking though).

Other than that, feel free to capture the issue in the app's debug log (below).

I've exact the same problem. It seems it happens when I am on public WiFi networks, and it happens with Gmail only. I've 4 accounts on AquaMail 1 of them is Gmail.  All others accs work fine during all kind of WiFi-s only gmail error happens. On LTE all is working fine.
It should be some AquaMail bug, because I forget to switched off auto update and my AquaMail has been updated to 1.12.0-651 at 2017.11.07.
Before that update I've never had this kind of problem.
I used the old stuffed cool Aquamail from 2014 - "AquaMail_1.5.0.2.apk" and it was working fine...

Damned I hate updates....

99% it's not a bug in Aqua but rather your public networks doing something funny.

Oh if it goes away only if you roll back to 1.5.0 - could be Google Play Services failing in OAUTH2.

You might be able to fix it by bringing up account setup and enabling "force web login" (and completing the setup screens).

But of course, as usual, this is all pure speculation on my part until you've sent us a debug log with this issue (to support / aqua-mail / dot com).
