Re: And my "on phone" deleted items grows by a couple hundred messages a day - all messages that I don't sync to my phone (they come in via RSS).

Hmm, maybe it's this then?

It could be, but I don't want it. Which was my original "How Do I" - How do I not waste tons of bandwidth and cell phone storage on deleted and sent items? Can I set days to sync to 0 for those folders and 30 for everything else? Can I turn these off? (doesn't appear that I can) Can I make them one way? (phone to server - that's what Touchdown and Nine do)

No sorry there is no "messages to sync" setting per-folder. And no "upload only" either.

Do you need those messages in Deleted? If it's a server side message processing rule, maybe change it to delete immediately?

Yes, I routinely go back and find stuff I deleted too soon, that I thought I wouldn't need, but turns out I did. I like having a year's worth of deleted messages. I'm disappointed that there's not a one way sync here. I've never had an email program that required me to keep my entire trash can on my phone.

With IMAP it is possible to "unmap" the Deleted folder from the server folder.

With Exchange there isn't, sorry - because Exchange "knows" (and always has) THE deleted folder, there is no ambiguity.

Now back to "each successive sync takes 1mb or so" - this for all folders? How many do you have set to sync (besides the usual four - Inbox  + Sent / Deleted / Drafts)?

Does your inbox have a lot of messages, say 20K or more? Do you have push mail enabled for the account?

I sync 4 other folders. In sum, like 25 messages in the last 30 days. Note that the 1MB sync happens whether I download anything or not. I think it's the deleted folder, where I have some 9000 messages, and Sent, where I have some 950, all in the last 30 days.

I believe that your setup (EWS) is just not going to work for me.
