Attachments from Device Storage
« on: June 26, 2017, 01:55:22 am »
It's probably staring right in front of me though I can't seem to attach a file from my device storage file system to an email.  I can attach the usual photos, files from Dropbox and Google Drive, etc., though not a doc or other type file stored on the device that isn't in a pic, video or cloud folder.  Here is the complete list of options when clicking the paper clip:

Images (b/w mountain icon)
Videos
Audio
Recent
________
Downloads
Drive <account name>
Drive <account name 2>
________
Drive
Photos (photos app icon)
Sound Picker
Gallery
Verizon Cloud
Dropbox

When I save a doc from an email, for instance, it is stored in the device download folder.  The download folder from the list above is only internet downloads.

Also, when I click any of the items above, the drawer remains open and I need to click the selection a second time.

What am I missing?

What app are you using to choose the file (after the paper clip)?
What is your Android version?  And what device or ROM type (if a non-standard one)?

I'm not sure I understand the question "what app are you using to choose the file."  I click the paperclip from within AquaMail and a drawer opens on the side with the options I listed above.  Isn't that generated from within AquaMail?

AquaMail has no internal" file picker", After click on the paperclip it's the work of the devices own file picker or (as mentioned by @StR) of a specific file picker app, which you are using as standard.

Fascinating....I had wrongly assumed it was within AquaMail.  While I could find no information on whose or which file picker is being used, I did find an obscure setting that allows for showing "internal storage."  Selecting this option added the device itself to the drawer.  Selecting the device then provides me access to its root file system and the internal download folder as opposed to the top level download folder which appears to only store downloads from web sites (why would Verizon have two download folders???).

Anyway, this solves the problem.  Many thanks!

Great!

Most likely your "file picker" is the app that came with Android (on my Motorola phone it is called "files", but I've seen it called differently on other devices). And the very first time you used it, it asked you to save it as default, and you've been using it ever after. But in principle, you could remove that default app for that task ("intent"), and use some 3rd party file managers.
