Cannot send or receive messages from AOL

Today I started receiving the following error messages: Incoming server login error: -ERR invalid user/password, USER: (my email address) and Error sending outgoing messages, Authentication error: 535 5.7.8,error Authentication failed. Authentication failure.

First, you can set up an "AOL migrated Verizon account" in Aqua Mail:  Just tap the "Manual" button after entering your email and password (the "automatic" won't know to use AOL settings) and try these:  Incoming mail server: imap.aol.com, SSL (strict), port 993 Outgoing: smtp.aol.com, SSL (strict), port 465

And yes, today is the day that Verizon has shut down their mail servers.

Please remove the account from Aqua and add back using Manual setup and AOL server settings.

And then, since migration screws up message date sorting, please long press on the account -> options and folders -> account options -> set the "messages to sync" to a "date range" based value, e.g. "14 days" (not "N messages").

Your suggestions worked on my Samsung tablet but when I made them on my LG cell phone I got the following error message: Incoming mail server, (POP3): Authentication error. -ERR USER BAD invalid command

I recommend to use IMAP on both devices -instead of POP3.

BTW, the recent 1.11-dev builds here on the forum already "know" that @verizon.net addresses need to use 1) IMAP 2) AOL's servers.

Outgoing main server (STMP): Authentication error.  535 Error: authentication failed: authentication failure.

I removed the old account and started a new one. I used my new AOL password.  The settings reverted back to my old verizon settings

You should connect with IMAP (not POP3).

I am using the 1.11 dev build and IMAP. Now I get the following error message:

Incoming mail server ( IMAP) :Authenication error NO LOGIN failed

Outgoing mail server (SMTP) : Authenication error: 535 error: authentication failed.

Please use the Manual button on the account setup screen and verify that the app is in fact trying to use:

imap.aol.com + SSL + port 993
smtp.aol.com + SSL + port 465

The login should be your @verizon.net address, from what I understand (i.e. they don't require you to get a new @aol.com *address*).

If the errors persist - may be a good idea to try and log into AOL Web Mail using your @verizon.net address, or maybe Verizon Web Mail will have some sort of announcement for you (maybe you're supposed to "confirm the migration" or some such).

Darn! What happens when you're used to typing with both hands but never learned proper technique.

Yes, 993 - 993 - 993 let me do it again - 993 is the standard port # for IMAP + SSL encryption.
