Lost my message action bar color
« on: May 01, 2017, 06:30:30 pm »
Folks,

Beats me what happened, but a day or two ago, I realized that I no longer have any color on the background of the "action bar" at the bottom of messages -- it's just white.  I'm using the Light ("Material Design") color theme, and I've got two different accounts set up, each set up with different colors.  Usually, the bar at the top of the screen (which shows I'm in the "Inbox" of whichever account) and the action bar both use the background color that I've set for each account.  But now, while the bar at the top of the screen has the proper color, the action bar is only just white.  So, might anyone have any suggestions regarding how to proceed?  This is on a new Samsung Galaxy S8+, and though it's a very new phone, I'm quite sure it worked properly when I first installed AquaMail on the phone.  Thanks for any sage advice you could send my way!

Re: Possible bug: icon bar does not adopt requested color; remains same as message text background. Reinstalled 1.8.2-216; color returned.

Yes, that's the small design change in message view: the bottom icon bar is now light (white), the app's or the account's accent color is still there in the "top bar".

So, this is a "feature," not a "bug."  VERY disappointing.  One of the reasons why I have been a previously-satisfied user of AquaMail Pro -- for many, many years -- has been the way I could choose to set it up.  But again, this is VERY disappointing.  From my perspective, the "action bar" is part of the "user interface," and I appreciated how its background color separated it from the white text of most messages I get.  Without that separation, I absolutely feel that this is NOT "progress" -- it's a step backward.  If we could get that color back, or perhaps at least have some kind of option to change it, I would appreciate it.

Conversely, can anyone show me how to get my hands on a previous version, install it, and presumably keep AquaMail from automatically upgrading itself, presumably forever and ever?

Thanks!

There was NEVER a setting for that bar previously (when it was vertical too).

It was always "juicy green" (in the default Material theme) and "pale blue" (in the Light theme) and there WAS NO SETTING for this color EVER.

Re: I think that OP was mentioning the bottom action bar in message view.

Um, re-read his message, yes I now think you're right. Sorry my response was completely wrong then.

I think that OP was mentioning the bottom action bar in message view.

Yes.  In the past, this "action bar" took the "account color" you set for each account.  I vastly, vastly, vastly prefer that to just a white color that doesn't distinguish itself from the typical white message background color.

Hmmmm, now I'm REALLY, EXTREMELY disappointed by this turn of events.  I just used my tablet, which I tend to use in landscape orientation.  And thus I use the "Two-panel UI" setting.  AND THE ACTION BAR IN THE TWO-PANEL UI MODE USES MY ACCOUNT COLOR CHOICE FOR THE ACTION BAR BACKGROUND.  Of course, using that mode on a phone held in portrait orientation would be ridiculous.  But it's really extra disappointing to see the inconsistency here, on top of the initial disappointment.  Again, I sure would call this a step backwards, and not anything resembling "progress," whatsoever.

The design people thought that "white" was nicer and cleaner, but since it gets really messy in two panel UI, that was left alone.

I updated last day, so So I found the "horror" ;) a bit later:

I agree with thoots to 200%, the white bottom bar is really big crap, because it optically does not separate from the mailtext and e.g. when deleting or replying to an e-mail so you do not immediately have the overview, which account now in use.

Not design, but function and useability should be the main point. We are here at Android and not in an Apples design fetish. And who the heck hears really on "design people" ??? Very, very irritating!

Thre are so many options in the setup, why is no option to choose, which color the bottom bar (Account color or boring white) should use?
