Show embedded images
« on: April 18, 2017, 12:06:06 am »
I have recently installed Aqua Mail version 1.8.2-216 on my new phone LG V20. I don't seem able to make embedded images to show. I have turned off the setting "show images only from know contacts" in message view and turned on the settings in network, both WiFi and mobile data, "show embedded images". The messages still load without embedded images. Also there is no panel/button between message header and text to show images. See my screenshots. Help, please! Many thanks!

Based on your screenshots (thank you), the images are getting loaded as far as Aqua Mail is concerned.

But the Android code that's supposed to actually do that -- tries and fails. And that's why you're getting those funny placeholders, they're error indicators.

Please try:

- A different network connection type (WiFi vs. mobile)
- A few different messages

There is no difference to Aqua, so any difference would indicate that the source of the issue is elsewhere.

Thank you for your reply and suggestions! I tried different emails. Some of them do open with images, and some don't. I also tried to open them using mobile data - same thing, some have images some don't. I attached a couple of screenshots

If same message - sometimes opens with images but sometimes you get those placeholders ("load error" indicators), and *especially* if it varies with connection type (mobile vs. WiFi) then, as I wrote above:

"any difference would indicate that the source of the issue is elsewhere"

That is not in Aqua Mail.

It doesn't happen that the same message sometimes opens with images, and sometimes not. It is different messages, some open with images, some don't.

Also, it doesn't vary with connection WiFi vs mobile data. If the same message opens without images over WiFi, it will also open without images with mobile data. The same goes for messages with images.

Also, I tried other email apps, like Bluemail, alto, gmail etc. All messages with embedded images show them. But I would prefer to use your awesome app. I was using it for years on my old phone, galaxy s4, I really like it. Thank you!

Um, sorry I must have misunderstood what you wrote above about WiFi vs. mobile.

You posted a screenshot of "Maui Rainbow Tea" --

1 - Those are linked images, they actually reside "on the Internet" and are fetched by Android not Aqua Mail, from your phone, and from the Internet servers where they reside (i.e. not part of the message itself).

2 - The "broken image" markers are clearly visible and quite characteristic, those indicate that Android did try to load those images but it didn't work.

Now if you wish to send us a sample message, so we could try to reproduce -- you can do that to support / at / aqua-mail / dot com.

The best "format" for this is if you could "forward as an .eml attachment".

Next best is if you could "view original message source" in web mail or a desktop mail app, save that to a plain text file, and again send as an attachment.

Finally, you could just forward it "the usual way", maybe best to use Type Mail or Gmail.

( speaking of Gmail - is that a Gmail email account? Or not? )

Thank you for explanation! I have sent you one of the emails that doesn't show linked images as txt attachment. I wasn't able to forward as eml attachment as I don't have Outlook. Thank you so much for trying to help! I do appreciate it!

It's a yahoo account, but I do have a gmail account as well. I didn't encounter this issue with the Gmail app.

@Elena - I got your sample message and unfortunately wasn't able to reproduce. Tried it on five phones, WiFi, mobile data (two diff. mobile operators), diff. Android versions, the images became visible, instantly, on all of them.
