Because we thought it would be a good idea --

just the same as there are *existing* users who liked the "group by date", there are also those who didn't, and never knew it could be switched off.

There are two sides to this "coin".

I'm sorry, but I'm of the opinion that the developer has no right to change a user's settings via an update, especially if it's a product that the end user paid for.

Make the change available and tell the user about it, but don't take it upon yourself to alter your customers settings.
