When you delete an email while reading the email,  it goes to the message list regardless of the setting.

Not able to reproduce (Android 6,  S7edge). I can customize (return to list, next or previous message) in Message view settings, and it is working as expected.

It happens when you choose the first email in the list, read it, and then delete it. It does not happen if you do not choose the first email in the message list.

I and using an old but good Samsung Note 3.

I figured out the problem. I had the "previous message is older" setting checked. So it was deleting the email and going back to the list assuming it was at the end.

My favorite, so it's "like a book" (left to right), but it seems that most mail apps are the opposite way (and so the setting is actually off by default).
