image display in email
« on: January 24, 2017, 04:19:12 am »
I have one peticular email from a known source, saved in my contacts. But when they send me an email it says that images are turned off. This is the only email that this is happening too. Any suggestions?

There could be two different situations when you might not see the images: when the image is embedded but not downloaded or when the image is remote, and only linked.
Both have the corresponding options controlling this behavior.
In the first case, the rationale is to save mobile data, and you can choose to load the rest of the message, including the images.
In the second case, the rationale is your privacy. One modality of verifying that you received their message that is used by spammers and legitimate marketers is to link a remote image with a unique name. So, on the server side they can track which file name was used, uniquely identifying the recipient e-mail address.

Occasionally, a similar behavior can happen when the sender links an image using a local link pointing to his/her local hard drive. Then, obviously, that image is not available...

What is the note/message shown by Aquamail when the image is not displayed in your case?
If you can post a screenshot (or send it to support / at sign / aqua-mail / dot com ), it would be easier to help you with your situation.

Re: saved in my contacts

Does the case match? I mean upper / lower case letters? Between the message's From address and what's in Contacts?

And yes, it would be interesting to know which case it is -- linked images (will have a "show ... from foo.com" panel) or embedded images (will have a "load more / to completion" panel).

Kostya, I am a bit surprised: should that matter?
AFAIK, all e-mail addresses should be treated as case-insensitive. Are you saying it isn't the case here?

It can -- there is a setting for whether AquaMail's queries into system Contacts will ignore case, and this setting is ON by default (ON = "yes, do ignore case"); but there is a slight performance penalty, and this setting can be turned off. That's why I asked, in case the user had turned this setting off (although it's unlikely).
