IMAP disabled in Gmail web mail but it works...
« on: November 07, 2016, 07:39:40 am »
Hello,

I just purchased the Pro Key after 1 day of testing of the free version - the app is just great!

I have set up 3 gmail accounts, it was automatic, but I've noticed that the IMAP settings in the gmail web site are disabled while the settings for the AM accounts are actually IMAP. I'm able to send and receive the emails.

Maybe I'm not yet noticing some absence of some features?

Should I enable IMAP in the web-mail?

Will it cause any problems if I don't?

Just want to learn as much as possible how to set up use the app in best possible way.

AquaMail's automatic setup for Gmail is IMAP, yes.

You can double check by long pressing on the account on the app's main screen -> options and folders -> you should see a sub-category "IMAP Options" and not "POP3 Options".

The Gmail "master switch" for IMAP is here:

https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?shva=1#settings/fwdandpop

---

Now if that setting is off, then apps are not supposed to be able to use IMAP.

If AquaMail still works for you, despite, it's just a bug on Google's side, not because AquaMail uses any "tricks" or "magic" :)

So yes, I would make sure that the Gmail IMAP setting is ON -- who knows, the "off" may take effect unexpectedly and then Aqua would no longer be able to work with this account.
