CHOICE OF AQUAMAIL VERSION FOR CHROMEBOOK
« on: October 28, 2016, 10:33:33 pm »
I have an ASUS Chromebook running Chrome OS V.53.0 which can run Google Play apps [for Android]. I run the Chrome OS version of AquaMail at present but I would like to hear other opinions whether I should switch to AquaMail Pro which I run on my Android tablet. I ask this as I have particular problems with viewing and saving incoming attachments. Strangely, sending attachments works fine, presenting the files as stored on the Chromebook/Google Drive. Apart from this, the Chrome OS version does what I need.

Well, I don't really have much to say about this (maybe others?) but:

- The Chrome Web Store is the Android app, packaged using something called ARC Welder specifically to run as an Android app on Chrome OS.

- If your Chrome can run Google Play, then you're getting same Android app, also repackaged to run as an Android app on Chrome OS, but this repackaging will now happen "transparently" somehow (in other words, "Google magic").

What problems with attachments are you having, specifically? Can you elaborate please, including what you do and what happens and error messages if any.

If the incoming attachment is a photo [e.g. a .jpg file] it is displayed but nothing appears to happen when selecting any option to save the file. It certainly doesn't appear among the files. No error messages appear.

Ummm...

So this is one of those things where "the Android inside ChromeOS" is not the same as "real" Android (even though it's supposed be "just like the real thing").

Afraid this can only be fixed when / if I get a real Chrome OS device here (and so far, they only models one can purchase in Russia are quite old).
