working with keyboard (Chromebook / Android)
« on: August 14, 2016, 05:49:55 pm »
I am using a Chromebook with the new Android support (developer mode).  Aquamail works well with one exception - keyboard mappings.  I know the app is written for a touchscreen, but when Google releases the Android support for ChromeOS there will be a lot of potential users.  Adding common key mappings for use in these environments would be helpful.

I don't own a Chromebook, can you please explain the issue in more detail?

Sorry, fund replies that told me there are keystrokes I can use.  I guess the issue is that the keystrokes are different than used in mail clients commonly.  Be nice if the keystrokes were more like outlook or thunderbird or user customizable.  But as always, great functionality is there.

The issue is simple: on a Chromebook with French keyboard, only the letters are at the right place. Every other sign (letters with accent, ponctuation, numbers...) is not where indicated on the physical keyboard. So it makes the app impossible to use for me. It's a pity as Gmail offline is very poor and I was looking for a good mail client

I do not have any access to a Chromebook, but from what I know, Aquamail does not do anything with the keyboard mapping. At least, not with respect to any regular symbols (I am not sure if some special control sequences might be trapped, but even that I doubt).
I would assume that the keyboard mapping is done (could be changed) by (1) the system keyboard driver, (2) Android emulator, (3) Android keyboard app. If something is messed up, I'd assume the culprit is in (2).
I am not sure if it allows running (3) any type of keyboard app written for Android. On my Android devices, multi-language support, I am enjoying Multiling keyboard: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.klye.ime.latin
