Setup Hotmail or Outlook.com : "Keep me signed in"?
« on: August 01, 2016, 11:23:14 am »
When adding a new account and selecting 'Hotmail or Outlook.com"
a sign in window will appear.

I am not sure whether or not to tag "Keep me signed in" there, or doesn't it matter and a one-time login is enough to save the login credentials into Aqua Mail.

Thanks.

That checkbox doesn't matter.

What's happening here is:

That's Microsoft's login page, AquaMail has no control over its appearance or function.

After you log in -- with Microsoft -- and "grant" AquaMail the permission to access your email:

Microsoft's login page turns around and lets AquaMail know an "OAUTH token" which the app then uses in place of your password, to log into your account.

The "token" is not related to the password, so in the end, AquaMail will be logging into your email account without knowing or storing or transmitting the password.

Many thanks for the explanation. All clear.
Background of the question was the network error (other thread refers)
and me assuming that maybe(?) that option should be tagged, whatever.
Anyway, thanks again.
p.s. sorry for my late reaction,
