No Sound in Notifications Marshmellow
« on: June 21, 2016, 06:57:48 am »
Since Upgrading to Android Marshmallow last week, AQUAMAIL will give me No Sound Notifications of eMail
Everything else works but no sound. I've looked and all Sound Notifications are On, nothing has changed except for Marshmallow upgrade.
I've tried changing Tones, nothing still does not give any sound to the Notifications.

And you do get notifications, correct? I mean the icon, the "... unread messages", the works?

Is the phone a Sony Z by any chance?

I also have problem with this, not sure when it started.
When I receive an email the following happens:
- Notification LED lights up for a few 100 ms and then turns off. It never lights up again
- The vibration is as short as the LED.
- The display turns on and shows the notification for a normal amount of time.
- There is no sound.

I have tried what you wrote above, the setting was disabled for each account. After I turned it on I got the short vibration. Before that there was no vibration.
Vibration, sound and notification LED works for other programs. For example all three works when I receive a message in Kik.
When I change the vibration setting from 'Default' to '--**--**' there is no vibration at all at the notification. It is almost like the LED and vibration pattern starts but something kills is after a few 100 ms.

I have a Nexus 5X, Android 6.0.1 with June 1 security patch. Aqua-Mail 1.6.2.5

This is pretty bizarre.

The way Android works, an app does not actually flash the LED or play the sound -- it only prepares a notification with "please flash the LED" and/or "please play a sound", etc and then asks Android to show it.

I'd like to see a debug log (please see my signature below), please include information on the times (approximate) of the app's notifications, give or take, so I can find the relevant info in the log.

Got the log.

I see the app posting a notification, with sound, and vibration.

And then I see the app "lighting up the screen" -- please try turning this off (app settings -> message notifications), Android may be acting too clever, interrupting the sound and the LED.

Thank you. I disabled 'Turn screen on' and now everything works.
Sound, LED and vibration works.  :D

If there are incompatibilities it could be useful that enabling the option "Turn screen on" will deactivate "sound, vibration, LED"  notifications -  as an 'either/or' option.

Re: If there are incompatibilities

Well, I only found out now :)

Wasn't an issue prior to 6.0, I think -- so I'll just remove the setting (if Android 6+), a sound + LED really is quite enough.

I'm seeing similar odd behavior with 7.1.1 on a axon 7.

Immediately after screen off, notification and led function properly, audio alert immediately as led starts to flash.

Later notifications get delayed - led starts flashing immediately when email comes in (imap), but audio doesn't make a noise until ~15-30 seconds later.

In Android, both the LED and the sound are part of the same "notification object", i.e. Aqua Mail posts both at exactly the same time, in the same "notification object".

This thread started more than a year ago, but hasn't been active since March this year and I'm faced with exactly the same problem:

Been using Aquamail pro for several years now and am VERY happy!
Initially used an S4 and for the past 1.5 years, Note Edge (which I still see no reason to replace!!!), SM-N915A variant, running 6.0.1 .
Sometime in the past week or so, LED & notification icon stopped appearing. I can find out of new messages/s only by looking the app's icon ans its counter.
I've followed "Paris Geek"'s procedures above, but no change.
Also, I can't find the "Turn screen on" to disable...
Help?

On Android 6+, Aqua does not have a setting for "light up the screen" -- and therefore, it's not Aqua that's doing it on your phone.

If you don't get notifications at all --

-- please check Phone Settings -> Apps -> find and tap into Aqua Mail -> make sure that "enable notifications" is enabled.

There _might_ be a setting there to "light up the screen" (my Samsung S8 has additional checkboxes for high priority and to suppress sound).

Also Phone Settings -> Notifications (probably same settings as above, just organized differently).

Kyosta Vasilyev, thank you!

I don't know which one of your instructions fixed it.
I simply did all what you said and now everything is back to normal.
