2 MSN accounts that wont PUSH
« on: June 09, 2016, 05:16:37 pm »
I have a Oneplus 2, Android 6.0.1, and just added 2 msn accounts and it wont push emails. I always have to resync to see changes. Is there a step I am missing? Under IMAP options, it says "this server does not support IMAP Push.

Yes, Hotmail is in the process of upgrading the back-end to support IMAP IDLE (push mail) and a bunch of other things. Not all accounts have been upgraded yet.

But are you really saying something else - that the app isn't checking mail in these accounts at all? It should be, every 15 minutes with the default settings?

Most common reason: various "memory optimizers" and "battery optimizers", either third party apps or things built into the phone / tablet:

- Clean Master - third party app

- MIUI - system setting, covered in the FAQ

- Huawei - system setting:

"It was the program to save energy from Huawei"

- Sony - built-in "Stamina Mode"

In general Android 6+ and so called "Doze Mode" which restricts apps in the background after a few hours:

- AquaMail settings -> mail, receiving -> will have a panel / prompt to whitelist the app for this "Doze Mode" if it's not already

Thanks for your reply.

My second email account was upgraded and it seems to work fine. My only problem seems to be with the first one now. I don't have any memory or battery optimizers. In android under battery optimizers, I checked don't optimize "may drain your battery more quickly." I attached the settings I have for the app.

Hi,
I recommend to have a look into this thread and check settings within your second account:

[in particular #2. at account level (account settings)

Any error messages if you refresh the "bad" account in the app?

@mikeone's post is about push mail specifically -- whereas you've got a more basic issue, with scheduled sync.

Nonetheless, if you long press the account -> options and folders -> account options (as mentioned in the post mentioned by @mikeone) -- there is a per-account "scheduled mail sync" checkbox, and it just may be turned off (guessing).

I just unchecked and checked "scheduled sync" and seems to be working fine now until I get my email upgraded by outlook. Thanks for your help.
