Push email delay in Data
« on: May 12, 2016, 10:29:59 am »
Hi all,

I'm facing an issue where the push is quite delayed when the phone is on data connection as against wifi. Is there any setting to ensure I have the same speed of push in wifi and data. I have an S6 edge with Marshmallow stock and I'm on 4g network.

Please help...

Three dot icon -> settings -> mail receiving -> (under IMAP Push) Wi-Fi only:  is this unchecked?
If yes, have you modified a similar setting under "special settings " for the account in question?

If those are the issue, it might be the battery optimization. You will need to exclude Aquamail from "doze mode", as well from any 3rd party battery /data optimizers you have, if any.

Re: quite delayed

How much is this "quite delayed"? Just any approximate data point would be helpful, I mean 1-3 minutes, tens of minutes, hours?

How often do you have the app do its scheduled mail checks? The default is every 15 minutes, does it still miss those?

And yes, Doze mode is the worst thing that ever happened to Android (in my opinion).

Actually the delay is just a matter of 10-15 seconds. But yes there's a delay. The scheduled sync is all at default settings. Imap push for wifi only is unchecked....I hope I have answered the questions raised here...

Aah....  :)
If such a miniscule delay is an important concern for you, you should consider yourself a happy person!
Android is not a real-time operating system. On my phone, I've observed (many times) the alarm or event notifications being delayed for almost a minute (or a significant portion of a minute). Sometimes even opening of a program that is not active can take some 5-10-15 seconds, especially when Android needs to empty RAM for it by removing some apps from the "more active" state.

Re: Actually the delay is just a matter of 10-15 seconds

10-15 seconds tells me that push mail is in fact working.

Had it been something like 5-10 minutes, I'd say that push got terminated for some reason and you're only getting mail thanks to scheduled checks.
