Too many login attempts [GMail]

I've been using AquaMail for the past 1+ year and love it.  For some reason yesterday I noticed that an email was hung up in drafts and wasn't sending.  When I looked at the error message I received a SMTP "too many login attempts" error.  I wasn't sure what was causing it so I killed the AquaMail process and rebooted my phone.  I didn't load AquaMail for a couple of hours but when I loaded it again I received the same error.  I then removed the GMail account from AquaMail and didn't add it back for a couple of hours.  Still getting the "too many login attempts" error. 

I'm trying to figure out why everything has been working without issue for more than a year and now suddenly it's not working.  Was AquaMail recently updated and something changed?  I've checked the GMail documentation and it only references "Google Apps" settings which have an "allow less secure application to connect" setting but nothing for standard GMail.

For now I will let AquaMail not use GMail for at least a day in order to see if that will "unlock" the account.

No, nothing's changed in AquaMail's SMTP code for a long time.

If the account is added into AquaMail as a "Gmail / Google Apps" type, then that uses OAUTH so the "less secure" setting doesn't apply.

Thanks for the quick reply!  I performed a Google search and got the same results as you did.  Unfortunately none of those results provided anything useful that would help me to address the issue.

I've deleted my GMail account from AquaMail.  I'll wait a day to add it again.  Hopefully that resolves the issue.  It's possible the email was stuck in the outgoing queue, attempting to send too many times, and therefore the issue was caused.
