I could not see anything about "ms active sync supported by AquaMail " in the description:
www.aqua-mail.com/?page_id=22

... where did you found this?

This is what it says on the web site:

Works with many other email services via standard Internet email protocols (IMAP, POP3, SMTP) as well as Microsoft’s EWS (Exchange Web Services) protocol.

Microsoft Exchange is supported via IMAP or EWS. EWS includes access to server side contacts (personal and global, with lookup), and accepting meetings that can later be viewed in Outlook and other apps.

The description in Google Play is largely the same info, edited down to keep short.

As soon as I'm done with this version -- I'll *finally* be able to do more Exchange work.

PS - thanks for the plural (in "you guys").

Great app with a great UI -- with the exception of one significant problem related to accessing my exchange account.

When I use the native android email app, I receive emails almost instantly.  But with aquamail it can take anywhere from 2 to 15 minutes, as if it polls for new mail.  Because aquamail uses EWS instead of Activesync, does that mean that there is no instant or push notification?  Or does it mean the server my email is on doesn't support push without Activesync?  Is there any way that I can get instant access to my mail using EWS?

This is really frustrating because your app is the best android email client in every other way. Thanks for your work.

It has nothing to do with ActiveSync vs. EWS.

It has everything to do with my not having implemented push for Exchange, back when I was adding Exchange support (about a year ago).

Something I'm going to look into, as well as two-way calendar sync, for version 1.6.

I have been using this for quite some time now and it's really disappointing to say that Inow have to stop using the app simply because it doesn't support Active Sync. other than that it is a great app.

I also referred this to many other people within my circle and they all bought the app.... just to realize that the app doesn't support ActiveSync and so now we are moving to different app.

I am no expert but for sure implementing ActiveSync wouldn't be that difficult to achieve. Anyhow, I will be more than happy to come to this app once ActiveSync is implemented.

Thanks

>> implementing ActiveSync wouldn't be that difficult to achieve

The issue, as I already explained numerous times, is having to get a license to use ActiveSync from MS:

1 - the complicated logistics
2 - costs

Look at Boxer. Got a great start, marketing, promotion, and now seems to be going nowhere. Lots of complaints in Google Play about its price -- and a then separate purchase to use Exchange.

They went with ActiveSync, and have to cover their licensing costs. But it does't do anything to change how users see it ("I have to pay *twice*?").

>> doesn't support Active Sync

ActiveSync is just a network protocol.

Can you explain why the network protocol is so important to you?

Maybe rather than a network protocol, you have specific Exchange oriented features in mind?

Now that the calendar sync has been implemented, would it be feasible to implement address book sync? You can browse the Exchange contact list via AquaMail, but there doesn't seem to be an option to sync it with the system contacts. It would be nice if it was possible to, for example, place a call to a telephone number saved in Exchange address book.

I should also mention that the currently posted 1.5.7-xx-dev versions (approaching release) --

- Don't have Contact sync (with system Contacts)

- But do have "autocomplete as you type" for your Exchange server side address book and the GAL (Global Address List, corporate directory)

I also would really appreciate ActiveSync support in AquaMail. That would be just awesome.

What you specially mean with "licensing costs"? ActiveSync itself does not require any fees to implement it somewhere. Or do you mean the Exchange server itself?

This isn't true.

Recently I heard from a friend, that he thinks that you just need an "Okay" by Microsoft for using the open protocol, but this does not really cost something.

I also can find an implementation code by Microsoft with same sample code:
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/hh531590%28v=exchg.140%29.aspx [nofollow]

May I ask where you read/heard, that the implementation does cost something? Maybe they already changed it, because Microsoft seems to go more and more recently in the open-source direction, so I could really imagine, that it is at least free now. I have to say, that I'm not that good informed about the ActiveSync topic, but if you want I could do some research.

Microsoft licenses (i.e. charges for) ActiveSync to companies that choose to implement the protocol into their software. This means that the company/app developer is charged every time you add your Exchange account to the app on any of your devices.

For more information you can visit this page:

https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/dn144954(v=exchg.140).aspx#sectionSection6

Officially licensed clients can be found here:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/legal/intellectualproperty/mtl/technologylicensing.aspx?4204ca98-018c-4a23-a11b-0e7404e832dd=True

Out of this list some companies who are developing Android mail clients with ActiveSync support:

Company               App

9Folders Inc.         Nine
iKonic Apps LLC.   Mail+
Taskbox Inc.          Boxer

However, I'm missing CloudMagic Inc. and Syntomo Ltd. (MailWise) in that list...
