Message rules / move messages automatically

Hi,

Is it possible to set-up rules so that incoming messages are marked or can be moved to another folder?
On my mobile device I only want to read/see those messages that are really addressed to me or are of importance.
Stuff coming e.g. from Yahoo groups etc should be moved to another folder so that they don't clutter up my inbox.
The Yahoo Groups and related stuff I will then read on my laptop when and if I find some time.

AquaMail has no built-in message rules, at least for now.

It does work really well if you use server side message rules: with Gmail or Yahoo (or any other, really, as long as messages are sorted into folders, which can then be loaded into AquaMail). A nice thing about this is that the rules only need to be configured once even if you have multiple devices.

I disagree. Any desktop client has rules and filters. Many of us are using more devices for mail indeed, but also if you don't know what are doing, better don't use it. It's simple as that. So filter and rules should be implemented in any client in despite of operating system.

And it seems to me it should be more important to have filters and rules on mobile devices if you are not in the office all day.

P.S. it's not about taste, it's about utility !

Paris Geek is exactly right about filters, rules, sorting - all this should be done on the server.  That's precisely what makes filters, rules and sorting mobile.  And the ability to do it on the server is what makes IMAP so good for mobile use.  Well, and push notifications. 

Anyway, that's why so few mobile email clients include filters and such.  In fact, only one I can think of does.

Basically, having filters built-in a mobile email client serves no useful purpose except for handling POP3 email, because it cannot do it on the server.

Android since v1.0.  Linux user since 2001.

Personally, I use server side message rules and find them great. Some have been there, hard at work, for years.

I have set server side rules with my desktop outlook, but my app does not seem to recognize these and I get everything in my inbox, which is super annoying. Any ideas on why the app isn't recognizing these rules?

Desktop outlook rules are not server side! Those are for your desktop client only.

If the folders to which messages get saved are not synced with the server, - the app will not know about them.
That could happen in two cases: either the type of your connection doesn't provide syncing
folders back to the server, such as POP3, or you chose to save to the folders that are local to your desktop.

Let us know
(1) What type of connection is configured in your outlook configured (IMAP, POP3, ActiveSync, ...),
and if it is not POP3,
(2) Do you have the folders in Outlook configured to be synced with the server?
