syncronized folders in the aquamail
« on: February 13, 2016, 12:51:33 am »
Hi, I'm a user of the aqua-mail pro and I don't like a function in the aqua mail. if the new folder is created on the server, I will have to add it to my aqua-mail. If I change the language of the gmail (from English to own language) the the aqua-mail won't see some default folder ("sent items" => "gesendete elemente"), If I reorganize the structure on the gmail, I will do something in the aqua-mail.

So it is not too comfortable, this functionality can be simplified in the aqua-mail?

Kind regards,

As it happens, this was recently implemented, available here on the forum under "Development builds".

All you need to do is long press the account -> options and folders -> folders -- and now the app will detect the renaming of those "special" folders and try to "reconnect" them with the current names.

Adding a new folder to sync is also done on this screen.

I don't think that *automatic* "mark any newly added folder as synced" is appropriate.

ok, but I have to spend a lot of time for this setting because always configure the new folder.  I think the aquamail would check all structure and the user can always see all folders. (gmail native app can immediately  see the folders after the installation ;)

Many users do not want to sync all folders automatically, but only a few selected ones.
If you have many folders and all of them would be synced every time, you could be wasting your resources (memory, storage, data).

the user can decide what is the better option for him. Anyway I think the folder changes can beautomatically seen by aqua mail . if the user goes to folder, the the folder's content can be load from the server, header of the email doesn't reserve a lot of resources. It can be worked as native gmail, which works well.

How often do you create new folders?

That's kind of my thinking.

I also don't like how Gmail puts all folders in the sidebar -- why do I need to see "Starred" and "All Mail" and "Important" if I never ever use them?

( speaking as a user )

In AquaMail your folders are just one tap away (compared to Gmail app) -- via the sidebar, "other folders" or "more folders".

As I see nobody understand me. I would not download all of emails from all folders.
The program can see/check all of folder structure only. If the user select one folder from them, he will see the header of emails. if the user select one of the email, the email will be downloaded to mobile. It is not a rocket science.
I have 30-40 folders on gmail, so if you have also a lot of folders, you can see that, the aqua-mail is not too comfortable.

Otherwise, the "important" and "starred" email can be turned off on the desktop. it is not needed to download to mobile.

If I understand correctly what you are trying to achieve here, - you can do it easily in the existing program, and there are 2 ways for that.
1. Long-press on the account name in the account list -> Options and folders -> Account options -> Show "Other folders...". Then in the account list you press on "Other folders" and choose the folder to access.
2. In the message list, you can use the "pull-down" "cabinet" (top left), where you will see "Other folders".
Once you've chosen the folder, Aquamail will download the same number of messages as preconfigured for folders that you've configured to sync.

Under general "Settings" -> Account list -> (at the very bottom) you can control: "Recent folder count" and "Keep recent folders for ... [time period].

For details read the item "How do I access server side folders? in the FAQ:

Hi there,

a few years old, but I also face similar issues like OP, not having everything on sync.
I understand concerns about performance / data (especially mobile) etc. which some of you already posted.

So I want simply to have EVERYTHING on sncy ALL THE TIME. Simple as that.
Why is this not an option (with a warning "data consuming, beware" or what ever). After all, as an option, it'd be my choice.

I use the app for 4 email accounts, one of them is for my business. Especially for this account I really need such an option. I daily create folders, rearrange emails, make sub folders or flatten some out again. It's organizing my emails. I get new customers, I need new folders, I have different status like "ongoing" and "request" and "done" and so on and on - I have many folders and it will always change.

I have endless data and even if not, it would be no problem to make such a "sync everything" option go along with two options "on mobile" "on wifi".
I don't understand the previous discussions about how much sense such a feature would make etc., if you just could delegate this choice to the user himself ... I for example would be glad to make my own choices on this topic.

Right now I always find myself in the situation "ah damn, where is that email from 2 days ago, I need [to answer that], [the address in there], [...]" only to realize that I don't even see my freshly created folder from last night, as it's not yet synched. And doing the sync of the folders manually is quite unpleasent, again and again... Nothing I would expect from a "pro" app.

So maybe there could be done something about it in the future, I'd be glad!
Greetz!

PS: Maybe all of my problems are already solved in some way, but I can't figure them out yet.
