Aqua Mail now shows the date in the body of the message
« on: December 14, 2015, 05:54:30 pm »
I've sent a few emails to demonstrate my concern and copied them here, so please consider the 4 email in a thread (Below, within the ===). You can see, on the last email (the last being the first you read, the first email sent is at the bottom) starts with the date time (shown in bold) but it only occured on this email (not the previous). Why is my body suddenly showing the datetime detail?

Is this something AquaMail has added because I didn't add this myself but a few others have reported seeing this?

I can also see (on another email), more worryingly, in my sent items, that the datetime detail it gives show:

On Mon, 14 Dec at 14:25 darren <darrent@email> wrote:

I'm not Darren. Darren is in the email chain, but I have no idea why my email has this datetime appended with his email especially when he isn't writing it! And this issue only occurs when I'm replying to someone with a @Yahoo email address? When I reply to darren (who uses hotmail), the issue does not persist.

What you can't see in the above, is that a hotmail account was CC'd in, and the thread is copied from the hotmail screen, but the same issue persists in the yahoo web mail too.

EDIT

I think I can see the issue. My last email was sent at 15:06, yet the following is shown

On Mon, 14 Dec at 14:25 darren <darrent@email> wrote:

Note the date. The previous email was from Darren, and was from that time. So this block of text is clearly from the previous email but AquaMail is appending it to the start of my email.
It's almost as if Yahoo is using some CSS or similar to append this detail at the top of the email but it's hidden, some how AquaMail is uncovering this data and exposing it!

Um, that made my head spin. I got the general idea but not sure about the details.

I have a Yahoo mail account and can use it to do some tests -- can you provide the exact steps?

Something like:

1 - Send a message with a bit of text, with AquaMail, from a non-Yahoo account to a Yahoo account

2 - Reply (or forward...) to this message in Yahoo account, using AquaMail / Yahoo web mail / whatever (preferably not Yahoo Mail for Android, if possible), back to the non-Yahoo account.

3 - Now look at this reply in AquaMail, when received under the non-Yahoo account, and you will see that: ....

Something along those lines, which I could then repeat myself to arrive at hopefully same strangeness.

And one more thing:

Is this in message view or message list? Message view, in actual message text, I believe?

I had a thought.

Does it look like bits and pieces of text (body text) are intermixed between messages? Messages received during same mail sync?

This might mean that Yahoo broke a certain IMAP feature -- interleaved commands -- when a mail app can queue up multiple commands and then receive the multiple responses, in one network roundtrip (really helps on mobile connections).

My code does this when fetching message text, and it is enabled by default for Yahoo (and a few other providers).

Can you please try this:

- Remove the account from AquaMail

- Add it back and before checking mail in it -- long press the account -> options and folders -> IMAP options -> turn off "IMAP optimizations".

- Check mail in the account. This will run without those "interleaved" commands.

If you can confirm that this helps, I will turn off the use of this IMAP feature for Yahoo.

---

I just tried sending / responding between two accounts, one of which is at Yahoo, using a mixture of AquaMail and web mail. Not able to reproduce, but then this is probably a really intermittent issue.

I'm so sorry for this delay

I will remove my account from AquaMail and re-add it ( turn off "IMAP optimizations") as you say and will come back more promptly this time. If this doen't fix the issue, then I will try and replicate and post those steps but after a quick try, I couldn't do it and it may take some time to fully understand this.

As I mention, I've only seen this with AquaMail not because I'm sure the fault is with AquaMail but because I use AquaMail more than MS Outlook - I will also test on Outlook to try and learn more about where the fault is.

Thank you for being constructive about it -- a comparison with Outlook may not mean much (unless you do see the issue there too).

The IMAP protocol is quite rich, there are many valid ways to combine the commands.

And I don't remember this or similar issues in the past, which is why I thought about a potentially possible server side glitch.

To my knowledge, this was fixed in 1.6.0.7:

+ Fixed message formatting when exchanging messages with Yahoo Mail app.
