Default Calendar for .ics attachments?
« on: April 27, 2015, 07:11:36 pm »
Hi there. I own the Pro version.

When I open an .ics (calendar) attachment from in an email, I can select the calendar in the window that opens (see screenshot attached).

How do I change the default calendar that shows at the bottom?

I only use one out of the 6 calendars I sync and the calendar that comes up by default isn't that one.

(I am NOT using AquaMail's new feature to sync these calendars)

The event in your screenshot was found by AquaMail in one of your phone's calendars (based on its UID), so there is nothing to select -- it is where it is.

Now if it wasn't, and you'd be asking Aqua to save it -- then you'd be able to select a calendar.

Thanks for your reply.

I'm trying to line up what you're saying with the flow of things I'm experiencing...

  • I receive an .ics file as an attachment in an email
  • Using Aqua, I read the email, and click the attachment's icon in the attachments pane of the email.
  • The screenshot above appears, with a calendar selected.

That selected calendar is always the same regardless of which .ics attachment I open. Where does Aqua's handling of all this end and the default .ics app/Android start?

Since it says "Saved in calendar", it means that Aqua found this event in one of the device's calendars.

Perhaps it's a Gmail account and you have Gmail configured to always save incoming invites in your Gmail account's calendar?

Can you check if those events actually do exist in that calendar -- or in some other calendar on the device?

Note that Aqua does not automatically save incoming invites like that. It's a Gmail specific thing.

Oh, and Exchange servers do that too, any invite in your incoming mail is automatically saved into your (server side) calendar, defaulting to "tentative".

Hello Kostya Vasilyev,

i'm coming up with the same question and i think that the expected answer wasn't still given. And yes, i know it's an old topic ;)

btw: jar240's screenshot seems to be taken by reopening an already saved invitation instead of opening a new "test-invitation".

Here's the (Problem):

whenever i receive a NEW invitation, the popup highlights BY DEFAULT my gmail-calendar. I can then switch to the correct calendar, but that extra step must be done on EVERY invite, cause MY default calendar is another one.
So the risk is high, to eraneously miss that extra step and save the event in the wrong calendar.

Steps to reproduce:
  • receive a NEW invite
    tap the *.ics file
    the popup defaults to gmail-calendar

In my calendar list i'd like to have the fourth calendar to be default.

my aquamail-version:
  • 1.6.0.2

Thanks!

Re: the popup highlights BY DEFAULT my gmail-calendar

Can you clarify which popup you mean?

Same as in @jar240's screenshot?

Can't reproduce in 1.6.0.x.

Sent myself one event, "saved" into a non-gmail calendar (something called "SyncML Orphaned" on my Sony Z2) and "sent response".

Sent myself another invite, clicked the attachment -> same calendar "SyncML Orphaned" was pre-selected in the popup.

What am I missing?

Maybe your invites are already saved to the Gmail calendar by "something else" -- say, by Gmail itself (it has a setting for that I believe, on the web site)?

At first, thank you for your fast response.

Right after my post i tried many things to get away from this described behavior. I also restarted my device a few times.
Now, right after your response, i checked again with a few invites, and from now on it is showing the right calendar... i'm confused.

I've seen described behavior yesterday and today... Uhm, as it now works as expected, there must be some magic in the air  ;D

Thank you anyway, if it happens again, i'll have a deeper look into it.

One of those magical Android things...

I double-checked my code too, it's very straightforward, "get last used calendar ID" -> "select this ID" -> "save the ID". Dunno.
