Improvments in folder pane
« on: November 24, 2015, 08:46:42 pm »
Hello,

I just read some older posts about the flat folder pane and that there is no way back to the old collapsed view. But are you open for some improvements of the new holy flat folder view ;) for users like me that have more then a few folders on IMAP?

If you touch and move the list you will get a scroll bar indicator on the right side of the panel - unfortunately it is not touchable. Please make it touchable so we could scroll faster through a long list.

In the apps drawer of the latest Android versions and the contacts list you can jump to a particular letter of the alphabet when you touch and drag the bar on the right. If you could add something similar to the folders pane it would be great. Maybe it's possible not just to show an alphabetical letter but the name of the folder of the current chosen folder level if there are less that 20 folders?

Best regards,

Norbert

No Problem, here are my mockups.

The first picture shows tapping the right scroll bar after opening the folder pane. The alphabet letter shows the beginning letter of the folder name (like the Android 5/6 app drawer) and the list jumps to the next folder in the root level while dragging. The first folder that matches the chosen letter is marked blue:

If you found the right folder you can mark the according circle (folder 'PC' in this example) and drag the scroll bar again. Now it works in the same way but for the underlying sub folders of the chosen folder only.

What do you think? You don't loose anything if you love the flat list like it is now - but you can go faster through a long list without getting a cramp in your finger. ;)

Best regards,

Norbert

But the overall list of folders in that window may not be alphabetical -- in fact, it's not in your second screenshot:

Sure, it's a-z in the "PC" sub-section, but just above that, you have "Vodafone" which starts with a V.

Where would it go then?

Oh and by the way, did you know that this window has search (for folders)? So rather than scrolling, you can tap the search icon and just type a letter or two.

Is it not? In my list every sub folder section is in alphabetical order. Because "Vodafone" is not part of the "PC" sub-section, it's the last entry of the "Kommunikation" folder, which is above the "PC" folder. In my example the scroll bar should work in the chosen sub-section only.

If you can't get it work for the sub folders, personally I don't have so much sub-sub folders. For me it would be fine if the scroll bar could work on root level folders only (like in my first picture). I just had the posts of the 6000 folders guy of the older thread in my mind.

Yes, I know - it won't be usable without that. ;)

Seriously? This might be doable -- because of the sorting -- but do you actually want that?

For fast scroll to only flip you through the sub-section?

And which one? I mean which folder's child items if you have more than one?

INBOX
Parent1
  A
  B
  C
Parent2
  X
  Y
  Z

How would the app know that you want to fast-flip through "Parent1->A,B,C" and not "Parent2->X,Y,Z"?

What is "the" subsection here?

I think all the sub-sections should be skipped by the scroll bar. In your example it should start with "I" for Inbox and then move to "P" for Parent1. If you drag it further just go to Parent2. Could be great because you can skip the long sub folder list and go directly to the next main folder.

Ah, only top level folders... Yes, this should be doable.
