If it was for the 'most recent changes', I'd expect it to be called Undo or Revert.  (but this doesn't exist in Gmail of course).

In Hotmail (as was mentioned before), it does say Delete (to discard the draft), but offers full context as the adjacent button says "Save Draft".

If you want to delete a Draft in the message list (in Drafts folder) then "Delete" should be the correct wording, since you are removing a Draft which was already created and stored.

But I feel that it's function is more obvious (I'm not sure what else it could mean), and the consequence of being incorrect (saving a draft vs. deleting an entire thread/email) is much less. Therefore I didn't have any issue.

I guess I'd be ok with delete, if it was 'delete draft'. No confusion then.
Yes, you could ask why I don't complain/suggest 'save draft' too, but it's because I can't think of any confusion it causes.

I can't seem to find that screen (when editing my drafts).

EDIT: OK, it only happens when backing out of a new/modified draft (not a previously saved, unmodified draft). Makes sense.

And yes, I tend to agree that delete would be more correct in that instance (where a draft has been created/saved, rather than simply 'drafted') if one wanted to delete the entire draft email, rather than only discarding the recent changes to that draft.

In Soviet Russia, the screen finds you

It appears when you press Back and there are unsaved changes.

Gmail in this case just silently saves the draft (which I find annoying if I only got into reply by accident).

But some apps don't confirm. Luckily AM does, but I'd rather not learn the hard way

For instance, the "move to deleted" email option in AM doesn't confirm* (thankfully).


*AM probably gave me the option to set this how I wanted ... but I can't recall tbh.

It does by default, you must have switched it off.

Options are in Settings > Look and feel > "Confirm ..."

@mikeone thank you for bringing the different drafting methods to my attention.

IMHO this illustrates my point a bit better:
1. BACKing out of a draft gives clear options (everyone's in agreement here).
2. Asserting that the "..., Delete" option discards a draft email is valid in the case of a new, first draft email.
3. Editing an existing draft (by going to Accounts, Drafts), then using "..., Delete" will NOT discard the recent changes however. It deletes the entire draft email. To discard the changes in this case, you must use the BACK out option.

I feel 2 and 3 are somewhat in conflict.

EDIT: Perhaps I should say, 2 and 3 are different and each has their place. Maybe "discard changes" can be added to the ... menu to provide users both options - this also gives context.
