Tasker Aquamail profiles
« on: September 29, 2015, 03:21:14 pm »
I noticed that some users have started playing with Tasker profiles for Aquamail. I own Tasker but have only used it for a couple of simple profiles not involving AM.

I wonder if the Tasker users would provide some examples useful to Aquamail users?

Although my accounts are imap and my spam filters are implemented on the server, I still get some spam in my inbox. It would be cool if it was possible to use Tasker to create additional spam filters.
My server's custom filters are by sender addresses. It would be great if Tasker permitted me to filter (delete) by "subject" word. Is that possible from within Tasker?

Won't work for filtering, sorry.

There are two integration points:

1 - Change app or account level settings, trigger mail sync

2 - "Did I just receive a message matching a particular pre-configured condition"?

I know. I know. I've used Aquamail from the very early days and I know how Kostya feels about spam filters.

I still wish we could have a mechanism in Aquamail to filter things, forget the word spam. A filter for "if subject contains xxx put it in yyy folder", or "if subject contains zzz, delete the email", etc. No fancy spam checking. Just like AM filters and sorts emails into the various existing accounts and folders.

Such a simple automated "search/rule" tool would have many, many uses. Some might use it as a simple automated sorting tool, others for something else. I'm sorry I used the word 'spam' filter because I know how Kostya feels about that. Let's not call it a spam filter. Just a sorting filter/tool, if you wish. With Kostya's programming skills, he could probably add that code in a few minutes.

I was hoping I could do something like that with Tasker, but apparently it is not possible. Nothing to do with spam.

@someone:
Thanks for clarifying and sharing your thoughts / suggestion regarding "filter / rules" (instead of "spam filter").
I fully agree with your statement. However,  Kostya is just a "one man team"...

Kostya is way more than just a one man team ;D

Thanks for the post about spam filters, and the other posts about filter/sorting.

I am definitely looking for a spam filter; I tried MailDroid, which has a pretty decent spam filter; unfortunately, the rest of the program leaves a lot to be desired, so I'm back to AquaMail Pro.

In lieu of a full-fledged spam filter, I do have one feature suggestion that would help me, for one, dramatically, and render a spam filter mostly unnecessary:

This morning, when I checked my POP mail account, I had about 490 messages (yeah, the downside of having the same email address for 25 years).  Only 30 were not spam.  Yes, I can scroll through and mark all the spam emails and delete them, but that obviously takes a lot of time.

The feature I'm suggesting is a sort by "whether or not an email is from someone in my contacts" function.  If I could sort so that all emails that are in my contacts are placed at the top of the list, I can quickly flip through the important emails for the day. AquaMail must know whether an email is from someone is my contacts, as it can assign icons based on that (either a picture, or a blank icon).

Of course, it's up to me to make sure that all my important senders are in my contacts, but I'd happily live with that.  I could check my important emails, and just leave the spam for Outlook to filter out when I get around to reading the email on my PC.  Since it might not be possible to sort by contact book as the emails are being read, I'd be more than happy with a sort that could only be used after all the emails have been read, that is, one that I had to trigger manually (and couldn't, therefore, be made the default sort).

This would get me very close to the Verizon Email app's "priority senders," which is pretty nice, but limited to only 25 senders.

I hope this is clear, if not, let me know and I can try again.

Thanks,

jim

Kostya is a one man team, but what a man! That is why I mentioned I would be willing to pay an additional fee for the capability. AM is already a tremendous value and app and I feel guilty asking for more.

Actually, the code may already exist with the recent image handling:
"When the outgoing email contains an image, put up screen offering option to compress the image".

What I'm suggesting is a similar customized mechanism for incoming emails "if incoming email contains xxx in subject, do zzz (put in folder z, delete, mark as ddd, etc)"

Of course it is much more complicated than that but I'm trying to make it appearing simple to entice Kostya to consider it. ;-)

Oh, and BTW, the only thing I use Tasker for with AquaMail is to create a script that Checks for new mail, so I can press an icon to check for new mail in between my regularly scheduled checks, without opening AquaMail.

Ahem.

Yes, I understand how annoying spam is (although for me, Gmail is doing a truly spectacular job at that).

But, I've actually started working on message threading (la-la-la, I'm not dead, see, I'm typing in code as we speak).

You are doing a terrific job Kostya. May you live long and prosper, as I think they said in Star Trek or Star Wars.
Many of us don't wish to give Google any more information than we have to by using Gmail......
If you implemented that simple sorting tool I described you would be doing an even greater terrific job! ;-)
Or allow Tasker to do it via a plug-in.

Hi,

Is it possible to create a profile in Tasker that triggers an alert if the body of an email contains a specific word?

Is pattern matching for body content possible at all?

Are there instructions on how to do that?

I ask because at my work place group email lists are heavily utilized but I only care about the emails that contain my name, so if my name is mentioned I would like Tasker to trigger a pop up or sound on my phone or Pebble Watch.

Thank you for any help.

No matching on body -- which may not be loaded fully or at all, depending on user's settings.
