IMAP push duration
« on: July 18, 2015, 08:07:06 am »
Hi all,

A newbie to the app, I was wondering what the title above suggests? Does it mean that the app will only offer IMAP push for the time period set in the option? i.e., If I set it for 2 hours, does it mean that I will stop getting push notifications after this time period?

Appreciate your views... ???

It's how long IMAP IDLE connections are used (and reused after each change catch-up) before they're closed and fully refreshed... and keep working after that.

Thanks...but the underlying question was whether changing this setting has an impact on the battery or not? I'm on 2 hr intervals and the battery is just brilliant...I don't have the guts to change it..besides I don't see any issues in the push either..so why fix what ain't broken!

Well, if the server actually maintains its push connections this long -- good.

The IMAP spec only mandates 30 minutes before the server can disconnect.

But this doesn't have a significant impact on battery life, at least vs. 1 hour. Some, but not large.

Haven't done any actual measurements, just my gut feeling, knowing the app's code.
