Saving attachments to an extSD card

I tried searching here but got pages of results that don't seem to be relevant. If there is a thread detailing how to have AquaMail save attachments to an extSD card instead of the simulated SD card of the internal storage please let me have the link.
If not does anyone know how to do this.
I am running a Galaxy Note 4 with a 128GB external microSD card which would be much more efficient and storage effective to the internal storage.

Which Android version? Lollipop 🍭?  5.0.x or 5.1

It is possible (again) using Storage Accesss Framework since API 19 I think.

Unfortunately, the posted thread doesn't answer the question. All programs both factory installed and my own downloaded Apps other than AquaMail read and write to my microSD card. And while AquaMail allows me to choose the extSD card and even a folder on the extSD card it refuses to download attachments anywhere but the internal memory simulated card 0.

I don't believe this is a Android problem but something not properly set up in AquaMail. However, I could be wrong - after all I have been wrong before.

Since KitKat, there are restrictions in access to external SD card. Developers have to use new code to write/read there (outside app dir on ext SD card).

I believe you have nailed the problem on the head. While AquaMail is a great email reader it seems to me that the "bling" features are always current but the "substance" features get short shrift. While I would rather not have to, I will return to K-9 mail and/or Type Mail.
