Notification with different process?
« on: May 07, 2015, 02:49:22 am »
You may recall that email I sent you.
Just wanted to ask what do you think about the idea.

Is it really that dumb?

I follow the forums and I know you are extremely busy.
(I see a new AquaMail update almost weekly, ha!)
A “no“ or “yes will do too.

Ps.: I will include my letter so others will also see what I mean.

Just had a great idea. Or so I think it is a good one.

So... my only “problem“ with AquaMail is the persistent notification for push.
It's annoying because it renders the notification area a bit useless.

So the idea:
What if you would have two process of AquaMail on the phone (two apps?).
One would maintain the persistent notification, with PUSH.
This one could be hidden from the App Settings, where you can tick off notifications.

While the other one, would display new mails and important stuff.
It's best of both worlds. No persistent notification, yet same effect, and you get notifications.

Ps.: The idea is from AdBlock Plus, where it tells the user to untick that box.
And it works, never killed by the LMK, and its not in the notification area at all.

Just turn off app settings -> look and feel -> "status bar icon".

And maybe by Android 5.3 or 6.1, Google designers will come to their senses and provide a way to have status bar notifications without automatic and unconditional mirroring to the lock screen.

Thank you. I really hope it will work just as great as it did with the notification always on. You are the best.

With the status bar icon off, Aqua uses its own "tricks" to stay in memory.

The "purchase Pro version" page on the web site :)

Well I wasn't joking, I bought it again on my throwaway phone.
Me:You

And thanks for the help!

(For some reason AquaMail ate an enormous amount of battery life (90%) on my new device, but I will do the tips you told me last time, and check if this keeps up.)

By the way priority support could be a thing, companies who rely on AquaMail support is important.

About battery use -- if it's a phone with Android 5.0 - 5.1:

Please check system settings -> battery, click into AquaMail, and check if you see:

- Reasonable wake lock time

- Very high "mobile radio active" time

If so, please see:

Wow, thanks. That issue is just disappointing. Google, just why.
(By the way HTC and LG got this fixed, their firmware does not suffer from this problem.)

I don't believe it, at least for LG -- see #73 and #93 in the bug report.

Not a single comment from Google people there.

Guess they'll just wait for 6.0 and mark the bug as "obsolete".

Well I think we should notice news sites. I already sent a tip to Android Authority, will hit up the other sites later today.
It's sad that we have to harrass Google so they fix their crap. :(

My new phone is at 45%, AquaMail is not installed now (had to reinstall phone yesterday).
Screen ate ~5% ONLY. The rest is Google Services, Maps, Contacts+ and whatnot, ALL DUE TO THIS BUG. (All keep mobile connection alive.)

... It's terrible.
The Note 4 had a 10 hour SOT with KitKat.
And I cannot even downgrade, because stupid Samsung forces the "upgrade" on you.

Sometimes I cry back my jailbreak'd iPhone.
But then again, even the latest iPhone comes only with 1GB ram (lol!), and other horrible specs.
While specs are not everything, swapping can definitely be felt on iOS, even if they try to hide it under animations.
Oh, and don't forget about the 2x price tag.
For that stupid fruit logo on the back... ehh.
