Service blocked

I am currently staying in a hostel that blocks loads of stuff from their wifi.

AquaMail seems to be affected, it won't ever refresh. But the Gmail site still works, so I'm wondering if there is something that could be done with the app.

It's common for "public" WiFi -- at airports, hotels, etc -- to only allow web browsing traffic, blocking everything else.
