Drafts Folder
« on: January 27, 2015, 02:39:29 am »
Hello,

If I compose a mail e.g. on firefox and save it as a draft it appears in the AquaMail Drafts folder. So far so good. But: It doesn´t appear as a "normal" draf. It appears like kind of forwarded mail. The draft text is attached to an empty mail.
Like if I forward a mail from my INBOX.
If I open the draft in another email client it appears as a normal draft.

But if I compose a mail in Aqua Mail and save it as a draft, it appears as a normal draft.

Is there something wrong with my settings?

Not necessarily a bug.  Maybe just a weird behavior, but reasonable behind the scenes.

I'm sure that Kostya will explain it.

Well, I can't reproduce it with Gmail / web (the original message mentions Firefox -- the browser doesn't matter here, but the mail service does).

soooorrry, I meant Thunderbird...
But anyway: If I try it via Web-Interface in my GMX account its the same behavior..

Your attached screenshots show exactly the same as I can see in my drafts folder.
The original message saved as a draft appears not as a regular message but it appears as a attached message within a NEW message..

@Kostya,
The message body of the draft appears not right below the subject line -  as intended -  but below the separator "include the original message". This behavior is different to a draft, composed and saved with AquaMail.
That could be confusing to the user.

Kostya,

A similar behavior is found when the user forwards a previously received (or sent) rich text message. The message body cannot be updated while keeping the rich text.

Could you change this feature by keeping the rich text (html instead of plain) when the pen is pressed? That will also solve the former issue with draft messages, composed by using another mail app. However, those two "issues" are not related ;)

+1 !!!

Great job!

Can I replace the compose window with that screenshot (the right one)?

I can add a "+1" on top, too!

With settings for font size / color and the number of exclamation marks (would between 1-5 work, or should it go to 10?)

Sure, why not do it again.

I don't happen to have a rich text editor that can deal with arbitrary HTML (i.e. all the formatting features that HTML allows).

And any HTML message content downloaded from a mail server is exactly that -- arbitrary -- can have any formatting whatsoever.

---

That these drafts show "as if you're replying" is not true.

Please look closer:

1) there is no "Re:" or "Fwd" in the subject
2) there is no indentation in message content
3) there is no quoting header ("John Smith wrote xxx on January zzz").

So if you add some new content in the edit area, and hit Send -- then both existing HTML from below *and* new content from above will be merged, seamlessly, preserving *all* formatting features of the original HTML, not just *some*.

Kostya,
Thank you very much for your explanation.

If I understand that right, the previous draft -  designed by another client outside AquaMail - will lose "all" the arbitrary formatting features if (and only if) the user presses the pencil icon for editing the existing draft text.
Therefore this issue could be prevented  if the user is only adding new text within the upper area.

Yes, exactly.

There are two options - try to preserve some formatting and lost the rest (and before Aqua had a rich text editor it wasn't an option at all) -- or keep the existing HTML content exactly as is, with all of its formatting.

Kostya,

Could it be a good idea to implement a confirmation message when tapping on the edit pencil:

Please confirm
----------------------------------------
Editing will remove all existing formatting
of the previous message / draft.
-------—------------------------------
¦          cancel          ¦           ok          ¦
----------------------------------------

How do you think about it?

I don't think it'll change anything.

It's still going to be:

Help, it removed all formatting, darn, why did it do that, Outlook doesn't and Thunderbird doesn't!!! If you can't get this basic, basic, basic feature to work right, you should just go shoot yourself in the head!!!

( or something like that )

Yes, unfortunately that's probably to be expected.
