Google says - "don't be afraid of using bright colors" - but apparently there is something wrong with light grey and pale blue?

Ummm. Maybe I'll spend the next few months tweaking colors, forget about everything else.

My thinking was:

- The new theme is something exciting, and more or less in line with "the new and shiny Android" (I dare not utter the M word).

- The old ones are still there, for those who are used to them -- but with better, sharper, more properly dark / light icons.

So there are choices already. Something new, something old, but better.

Am I wrong? It's all bad?

I like the new theme you - in particular your choice of the blue color. However make the colors on top and bottom CUSTOMIZABLE could be a good solution.

BTW:
I'm not really happy with the effect of "automatically darken account colors for the title bar".

When you pick account colors -- or already picked them -- it's for the account list, which has black text. And the account list's background is white. So -- those colors are likely to be pale, light, not saturated...

Using those colors exactly as they are, in the new theme, with white icons and white text, is quite likely to look "bad" (unreadable).

I finally agree. You are absolutely right.

Unfortunately the color will change in some cases a bit.

e.g.:
yellow -> brown

However better than unreadable

- Choice the top and bottom bar color for unified message list, from the palette
- the same color of the account when you are inside a specific account or the same in previous point (unified message list), selectable choice
