Folder display without Sync
« on: January 10, 2013, 11:17:54 am »
Hi

Maybe its already possible, but i didnt get it...

I want some folders to be displayed but not synced automatically.

They should only be synced when i click on the icon INSIDE the folder.

When i select "no sync" in folderoptions, it isnt even displayed in the account.

:(
Thanks
Walter

I would like this feature too, because of moving read messages into archive folders .

I would love to see this too.

I have a business account with about 30 client folders which I rarely need access to and rarely change. Also I am sure that this would slow things down if it had to sync 30+ folders each time it checked for mail.

Maybe under the account, the sync'ed folders could be listed first and the non sync'ed second (indented once more).

May need some form of icon to refresh the folder list somewhere for the non sync'ed folders.

Thanks for a great app.

Maybe I'm wrong or not understanding what you want but I have such a setup.

I use IMAP and I have many folders.
I only set to push a set of folders (Drafts, Inbox and Sent Items).
Then I set the folders I want to Sync but disable IMAP push.
For them to be updated I need to force a manual check (account or single folder) but they are not automatically synced.

Attached an image showing the setup of some folders.

Thanks for the information.
I don't seeem to have is the option Not In Smart Inbox, and if I look on the refresh it seems to be refreshing all of the folders - which I am not interested in. Maybe this is an addition for the Pro Version which I have not purchased yet as I am still evaluating.

It would be nice to be able to set a default option for all folders show without having to set each folder (or maybe you have that too!!!  ;) )

Thanks

No, that's the same in Pro. If you force a refresh all folders update. But why would you force a refresh if IMAP push will show you when there is an update in the folders you want to be up to date?

And no, the see folders without setting is a feature request from some time ago.

Being able to access folders without them syncing all the time or showing on the main screen isn't directly supported right now, but needs to be. Hopefully I'll be able to work on this in the not-so-distant future.

The workaround with enabling push and disabling scheduled mail checks is a very nice one, thank you for sharing this tip.

I need this function badly as yahoo do not support imap push. As I have tones of emails and folders in my account, my phone battery drains fast if I use scheduled sync. The only way I get around it now is to disable schedule sync for yahoo imap account and manually sync the inbox.

Really really looking forward for this option.

First I like to say that I really like what I have seen so far in this email client and has started to use it as the main client in my phone
and will most likely go for the Pro in a while when I have tested it some more.

There is one thing that bugs me though and that is a bit of what this topic is about.

In the original Android Email client you have your normal folders like Inbox that is synced automatically.
BUT you could also select "Menu - Folders" OR through top menu "Show all folders".

With this it is possible to access a server-side folder at will without having to map which folder should be seen.
I could, whenever I want, go into the server-side map-tree and select which folder to open and when I do, it opens
the folder and starts syncing down the headers directly.

This functionality is THE one thing that I miss the most and is one big drawback that could cause me to to abandon
a product that in other respect is VERY competent...

One limitation in the Android client though is that it opens the folderlist flat and not in a tree-fashion so the list could
be very long and cumbersome to go through to find the correct folder.  One way would be to keep it as a collapsable/expandable
tree-structure that you could browse down throught.

Best regards
Dan Lundqvist

I saw that there is a new possibility to set "spam, do not sync" but i think this is not the requested function being asked here.

It seems that this option also hides the folder from display.

As of version 1.2.3.4, it's possible to access folders that are not set to sync all the time.

It's now possible to open folders on an as-needed basis. The UI for this is in the folder selection dropdown list when you have a message list / folder open.

Please see the screenshots.

Thanks

I found it after posting the question but I do also think it was planned in the main view where you open up the accounts as a tree, so I didn't edit it.

There is a per account setting, under options and folders, to show "other folders" and a few recent folders in the account list.  It on by default for tablets, off for phones.

As for long folder names, this version wraps them using multiple lines if necessary.

Great great great. You made my day again.

But... I set many folders now to "do not sync" (first item) but they are still shown in the account tree. What did I do wrong?
I killed aquamail and restarted. No change.

The "other folders" is working great. Thanks!

This is a great feature , but how do I remove a folder from  display once it is listed via other folders? there doesnt seem to be an option to remove it.
