New trend in mail application
« on: August 10, 2014, 05:01:17 pm »
I have seen few new launches of e mail application,  which comes with mail inbox management.

Until now the mail application has been focused on bringing the mail as efficiently and as effectively as possible from server.  What I feel now is that,  all mail application now focusing on INBOX MANAGEMENT,  the stage after pooling the mail in the application
Following are example

1. Transferring to folders
2. Snoozing
3. Assigning mail to some one
4. Defining action on each mail like to work on today,  tomorrow,  next week or on custom date.
5. Defining actions on mails.

This is certainly a value addition to for the application user

To cite few examples,  few email application which offers many or all of the above features

1. Blue mail
2. Boxer
3. BLOOMBERG (they coming up with imap support soon)
4. Mail box
5. More than mail.
6. IQTELL (combining GTD application with mail box to achieve mail box management)
And few more.

The purpose of this post is not comparing aquamail with any one,  as aquamail is the best for what it is designed for so far.

The purpose of this post is the discuss the future trends in mail application and how things are shaping up.  Perhaps it may help kotsya shape   his future plans over a time period.

I have been member of few forums of these applications,  and people seems to be appreciating.  Do you all too feel the same way or,  it is just a fad,  like some one has started,  and all are following mindlessly  lol.

Just a food for thought.

Yes,  that was the objective of the post.  I do not expect that the set priority be changed  but just wanted to share the market trend as you have rightly mentioned.

I appreciate this post for personal information and because I think the market must be listen, very often product specifications are from market and less from inventor, for example I can take advantage to have actions on messages, I use unread state to remember to do, but one event in my calendar could be very nice...

Currently, AquaMail allows the user to send an email as a to do list (+set an alarm on a specific date and time, +set priority, etc.) This existing function is very powerful (though this is not a complete snooze ability). You can try it: open a message, go to menu , then share, send to your calendar /to do app. If you want to use Evernote, it is on Google Play. Your feedback will enrich this discussion.

Paris,
Thank you. I was not aware of this possibility by Aquamail. Great!

As Paris mentioned,  I use extensively sharing my mail with calender and to do application,  this works beautifully,  message Subject becomes title and body goes into note.  It reminds you tidy this mail has to work upon.  Once reminded  you need to go back to aquamail find the mail and act on it.  To make the process simple  I created folders on server with tag like to-do,  reply today ,  reply later.  I transfer the mail to the approporiate folders and then share with to-do application for reminder.  This way I have work around for inbuilt snoozing facility.  This works flawlessly,  hope this will be helpful to others too

This is the underlying concept of inbox management,  which is taking shape,  which made me start this post

@paras.desai -- very nice write-up.

Yes, I am aware of these new trends:

Automatic filtering for advertisements / promotions / social, etc. (funny that Google doesn't make those folders accessible via IMAP); actions (cards) based on sender / content to automate tasks.

Regrettably, I just don't have the bandwidth to take on those right now.

Another trend is cloud-based mail collection. I used to think that privacy issues (one more place where your mail is stored and which you don't control) would matter here, but seems like it they don't (at least two or three very popular, new, mail apps work like that).

Now, "mailbox zero" sounds like bullshit to me, sorry.

I'm using Informant for events, tasks, notes, but I cannot "export" email messages in Calendar without lost the entire text or task without issue, the result is a lot of tasks because the text is totally pasted in task title.....
I do not want to add Evernote to my long list of apps...

Are you talking about "Add to Calendar" in AquaMail, or in this other app?

If I select "copy to Calendar", I can decide is use inside Calendar or Informant, the first choice is possible, but not with Informant, I do not find new event created...
I must create the event in stock Calendar, to find inside Informant....
It is not a big proble, but I would like to add the event directly using Informant...
If you select to share, and after you select Informant, the first document is a new task, you can convert to event but you lost the text of email as a note... The result is a new event in Informant with tite only.

ciao

Oh my. Sounds like something you should try reporting to Informant support :)

Yest, I think the same, the problem is Informant Staff is on iOS more than Android (because in USA Apple wins over Android...) and the support is low, I done a TO DO list, to improve Informant with same features I remember in Windows Monile versione and better, but the replay was to wait...
Informant is a very interesting platform, good level but not complete for me, I want the perfection and with some days of work, could be possible...
