Too bad, I now have to re-install K9 to be able to work...

And I have AquaMail Pro.

How many people work on K9? Many. On AquaMail? 1 (one).

You can always try free version to check if everything is OK and then buy.
Do you want to use the latest AquaMail version?
Try AquaMail Updater!

K9's GitHub page says "106 contributors".

I'm sure there is a lot of variability in effort / interest / talent etc, but 106 is a lot larger than one :)

I'm not complaining though :)

where 1 is very good, it is better that 100 to get along.
Just look BigG, they are an infinite number of people, many projects start, uncoordinated, often with duplicates, poorly integrated at the beginning of the work, how many are horrible? I have now tried their Launcher, simply painful. Apex for a lifetime!

For every person wanting PGP, you'll probably find others who want X509 instead... You'll never make everyone happy and AquaMail being what it us, you'll probably end up pissing off more folk by adopting one standard than another.

Good point, Rachel. Still -- I'm not at a point where I can try to tackle either one.

I'm in the middle of rolling out 1.5 (which should go to 50% tonight), then it's Android Wear (a minor update), and more Exchange work (the next major one, 1.6). And conversation view just over the horizon somewhere.

Re:  Rachel

With all due respect, any encryption is better than no encryption.  Claiming that choosing one will alienate some users is ridiculous considering that there is nothing today and some PGP users and X509 users are still hanging around.

I never said anything about alienation -- and I don't think Rachel meant it that way (and she's an AquaMail user just like yourself).

I *think* what she meant was -- even PGP would still leave someone's needs unmet.

And then, if *any* encryption is better than nothing, would *you* be happy if Aqua supported something other than PGP? I would guess not.

But that's a rhetorical question really. My plate is quite full at this time, and into the foreseeable future.

I'm happy about the K9 folks, they've done a fantastic job.

I meant no disrespect and Kostya is on the ball with what I meant.

And no, any encryption is not better than no encryption when

A) the user payoff is small (albeit vocal) and
B) It comes at the expense of other functionality and features.

In addition I still remember the almost vitriol displayed by users when the whole EWS project started and that's still simmering gently with the fact that some folk still are not happy that AM doesn't support ActiveSync.

I've been in the computer game a long time and I've myself have never needed to use PGP email. That said, I've had plenty of times where X.509 S/MIME was required.

Other people's mileage will vary wildly and there are people out there who are exclusively using PGP.

So, Kostya either throws in his hat into one ring or the other because both probably isn't going to happen.

Whichever way he goes, there will be users upset the other choice wasn't used. Not me, because I trust that he'll make the best decision he feels is right for his app. Others are not so understanding (a massive understatement) and will be more than happy to tell you they aren't.
