Display images imbedded in messages
« on: June 18, 2014, 08:24:47 am »
I have been working all afternoon and evening trying to figure out how to get AquaMail to display images imbedded in incoming messages.
I have read the FAQ multiple times, I have searched on the Internet, I have gone through all of the settings in detail and made settings that I thought would work but I still receive all my messages with no imbedded images of any kind only tons of URL's.
I have used AquaMail before and had no problem.
Please help

With the default settings, the app does not show linked embedded images, because that's often used by spammers to track you.

There should be a small panel just above message content saying "show images".

You can turn this feature off if you don't like it:

App settings -> message view -> show only from known (bottom of the list) -> turn off

However, there is a second level setting, depending on the network connection, and it defaults to off for mobile data.

To change this one, please see:

App settings -> network (end of the list) -> show images -> turn on

under both WiFi and mobile.

I'm not sure of the version, but I assume I have the latest version of Aquamail on my Android (Kitkat) phone, but now I can no longer open an email with the attached image visible.  I must click on attachment for every single email.  I have the setting set as described above, but it doesn't work.

@kawal -- attachments are not embedded images. Embedded images are images embedded in message text. Attachments are not.

For attachments, there is a per-account preload setting for IMAP / EWS (long press the account -> options and folders -> preload).

For POP3, since this network protocol doesn't have a way to download message text separately from attachments or images, please use app global "load when checking mail" settings on the app-global settings screen, under Network (near the end).

Thank you for the reply, but I DO have those checked as "no limit", both Load when Checking Mail and Load when view a message.  But I must press "Attachments" for every single email, even when there is text in the Message box.  It is an extra steip in every single email.

In my case I use AquaMail to notify me of any security event shown by my security cameras.  When there is movement in the camera view, I get an almost immediate email that used to show me a thumbnail image of the photo.  Each security event usually produces a number of images and thus, individual emails.  So using the forward and back buttons, I could blast through the thumbnails to see if the security event was anything to be concerned about.  With the new change, I now have to press on Attachment for every single email to see each thumbnail.  99% of "security events" are false movements, like birds flying or UPS drivers or whatever, so I get tons of emails every day.  Previously it was simple to scan them all and simply delete them.  No so anymore.

Yes, I understand your use case and your reasons.

It's just that the other guy had his reasons too.

What am I supposed to do? Add one more setting? Switch / don't switch? Isn't this getting too complicated?

I replied in your Bug Report thread.

Thank you for your consideration.  You should build your excellent app to suit the majority of users.  You shouldn't do it for any one user, including me.  I don't understand the other user's reasons, but if you do, and you think it is better without the auto switching (except for calendars, for some reason?), then leave it as is.  Apparently you originally thought the auto switching was a good idea in the beginning, and that seems obvious to me - if no text, why not switch?

But whatever you think is best, please do it that way.

Thank you again.

Well, I think switching to attachments makes sense for the way they're currently presented. I replied in your other thread with more thoughts.
