Widget does not update

I've been having a problem with my widget.  I'm running the app on a Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 ed) and use Apex for my launcher.  The widget does not keep up with the incoming mail all the time.  When I open AM it may show a lot more mail has been received than shows in the widget.  Tapping the refresh icon on the widget does not sync the two.  Deleting and reinstalling the widget makes it work again...at least for a little while.  I've been doing this tapdance for months now and thought it time to report the problem.

Please see if the issue occurs with the stock launcher.

Should be as simple clearing "the defaults" for Apex in system settings -> apps management, pressing Home to go to stock TouchWiz launcher, and re-adding Aqua's widget.
